Suggestions 4 dealing w/insecure Capt

Voice memo/record option on phone ready to go for the first tirade.
Get it on "tape" and once he's calmed down start playing it out loud. Tell him the next time you "over step", you'll just re-play it so he won't have to go through it all again.
You could also mention that you'll be sharing his debrief techniques with Pro-stan at your earliest opportunity.

Set him up. Make your radio call/ACARS/etc (preferably towards the end of a particular leg). After his rant, pull the voice recorder CB and open the cockpit door - i.e. to prevent physical violence. Call professional standards and the chief pilot - this is workplace harassment. You don't have to put up with it! (or you could use your cell phone in voicemail/memo mode).

Approach this captain VERY slowly. Do what you can to appear as small as possible and hopefully less intimidating. But, remember to stay attentive. Do not get down on your hands and knees, it will make it harder for you to get away if the Captain decides to attack. Only come within 10-15 feet of the him in the crew room. That is, until showtime. Then, call to him in a soothing voice and try to get him to come to you. Put out your hand, gently pat the ground, you can also toss the captain food. But, throw the food to the side and not directly at him.
Avoid prolonged eye contact. Look to one side of the captain, rather than staring him down. Most Captains consider this to be a sign of domination. They interpret it as a kind of challenge and it can cause the captain to think you want to fight.
Good luck.

Notice that the majority of comments are from First Officers. Captains are professional enough to not talk negatively about people they fly with. You can't really say that about the First Officers hired over the years. Even the abbreviations and structure of the title of this thread leads one to believe that we aren't dealing with a very professional group of aviators!
