Default UAV concerns...?

I'm sure this has come up, but does this concern anyone in the cargo industry or anyone hoping to be soon, as far as job security?

Fred Smith: FedEx wants UAVs - DIY Drones

I'd love to hear some opinions/predictions...

C'm'on in... you're only about a week late to the party.

Scroll on down to http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/ca...-mr-smith.html and start at about reply #44.

Then go to http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/ca...e-article.html

Then ask the mods to close this redundant thread.

P.S. did you happen to notice the date of the article you linked?

As he notes, a modern 777 is already capable of being an unmanned vehicle. "They let the pilots touch the controls for about 20 seconds, to advance the throttles, and then the plane takes over,"
Damn, I knew I should have changed my standing bid. I'll bet this makes recurrent training a snap for the 777 guys.

No, one huge reason is security. Look at how much security is required at airports. Then look at how often supposedly secure computer systems are hacked.

How much security would be required at Fedex HQ to keep a terrorist cell from gaining control of 50 MD-11 sized UAV's at once? I just don't see anytime in my lifetime (I'm 30) that we will see massive use of 'heavy" drones.

works great until the bad guys figure out they can spend $1000 at radioshack to get their very own airplane.
