Seat Lock on a Lateral Move
Quick Question....
If you move MD-11 FO to 777 FO on this bid....I understand that you are seat locked for 2 years. So you can not bid back to the MD-11 FO seat absolutely during that period.
Can you bid out to a Captain Chair....say in the 757?
Thanks

Some airlines waive seat locks for a first time Captain upgrade but I don't remember ever reading that anywhere in our CBA. Maybe a suggestion to our block reps (lurkers?) in this round of negotiations?
That way you wouldn't be part of the problem (sorry Jack) ...

short answer is no, 24 months after activation is your lock. However on large bids they will award you a seat if they can project your training past your freeze. Otherwise a down or lateral locks you out of a 757 seat.

You are seat locked for 24 months commencing on actual activation date. You may be awarded a higher crew position provided the training date is after the 24 month freeze. Read Sec. 24.E.1.c. There are some exceptions in Sec. 24.E.1.d., but for the most part, if you bid from MD11 FO to 777 FO, saddle in for two years.

Oops - beat me to it - what PeterGriffin said.......
Call Contract Enforcement for clarification, but short answer - I think, no.
CBA 24.E.1. (specifically 24.E.1.c. & 24.E.1.d.)
A pilot is not eligible for a permanent crew position award requiring ITU training with a projected training date during that freeze period except under the following conditions:
i. the pilot was excessed or down/lateral bid to relieve an excess; or
ii. the pilot down bid because of legal restrictions.
