Is it possible to end this show?
Settlement: How about the union pays the supposedly owed housing allowances for these four pilots and agrees to end any disciplinary action (letters, warnings, admittance of guilt, etc)? With this deal, the company agrees to stop any further actions. The company and union work together to make reasonable and very clear rules concerning residency (or better yet, either end the residency requirement all together).
We will spend much more on legal fees, the company saves face and reassures people that HKG is a viable domicile. Not a great solution, but one that might work.

No good end to this one...
After reading BM's email that he sent to everyone last Friday it is painfully clear where the company stands in regards to the HK housing allowance, that they are NOT changing there position and that NO real settlement will be offered.
Management feels that they have done absolutely nothing wrong, that the FDA language was crystal clear and have absolutely no fault in this matter. Each case is unique and has its own set of circumstances but given the unions track history it is going to be a long and painful process to get back on property and into the cockpit.
BM and company could easily send a positive message to the entire crew force by coming to some realistic settlement terms which does not involve losing all dignity in the process or bankrupting these pilots. Yea I know, good luck to that.

But I wonder if that is the reason.

My look at Practice Bid #1 showed 28 "Practice Awards", 25 of whom are junior to me and likely to be on one of the FEPP lists, and therefore now receiving Widebody Captain pay. 11 of the names are on one of the above-linked lists. I know that several of the others are currently receiving FEPP, and suspect that the majority are on the list which is not available online. As far as "brand new guys that actually want the move and job" ... the bottom 5, and 10 of the bottom 14 are receiving FEPP. I suspect a review of the earlier FEPP List will raise that number substantially.
I imagine that several folks have been breathing sighs of relief as the number of "awardees" has dwindled in Practice Bids #2 and #3. Still, Practice Awards and Actual Awards vary greatly, and some folks are going to have to do a gut check to decide whether they'll let their bet stand that they won't have to go, or yank their bid and pay the money back

Technically, it's not POP (Passover Pay), it's FEPP (FDA Excess Passover Pay). Two lists, from Postings 09-02 and 09-03, are posted on the ALPA website. (FEPP List 09-02 and FEPP List 09-03) There was at least one list prior to those, but I cannot seem to find it online.

.."Please keep in mind our concern is with the process that got us here - period. Yes, we support the individual pilots involved 100%, but they have chosen their own course, which is to seek arbitration. Please know that they can get their jobs back tomorrow, if they decide to do so. "
