Another denied 777 Jumpseat
#71
It looks like the Captain realizes that maybe he made the wrong decision....and the jumpseater accepts his apology.
Hello XXXX,
This is all after the fact and won't help you out with being delayed a
day trying to get to MEM but I have learned that my decision was
not in keeping with *supporting our own*. Lord knows the Hong Kong
crews have every right for the rest of us to go the extra mile to
support you with something we all rely on, *Jumpseats*. I did not have
the *full* crews veiws about having 6 on board at the time I made
the decision, so I souly take responsibility for it. I have been in
the airplane less than a year and quite frankly am still getting the
feel for these long flights.
I made the wrong decision and regret the inconveience this caused you.
I did not represent the 777 community well at all.
Hope to see you on another flight in the future,
Capt. XXXXXXXX
I obviously do not know Captain XXXXXXX personally, so I am taking this
letter @ face value. I told him I completely accept his gracious &
professional apology. I never questioned his ability to deny the
jumpseat, just the "why". I do realize XXXXXX may have had an issue
w/Captain XXXXXX, but I am not aware of those details. But as the
person "harmed", I am accepting Captain XXXXXX apology, & I hope to
occupy his jumpseat someday.
Best regards to all, as I head to the airport for my jumpseat
out tonight. XXXX X.

Yes, and he also chose to apologize, graciously, I might add. As well, he's learned a valuable lesson, one that will probably stay with him for the rest of his career. I'm sure that you (Fly FDX) have never made a poor decision, but if you had, and you had the chance to correct it, as best as you could, you'd have done it like that Captain did.

Guys,
If you dont mind my asking, yes i know the history behind it, but you guys think anytime soon international jumpseaters will be allowed again? Is there anything you guys can do to put some pressure on it?
To all polar and kalitta guys; thanks for the ride you guys (and girls) are great !

I'm pitching into the fight late. I have crossed paths with this Capt and was surprised it was him when I looked at the pairing. I'm not a good friend of his, but I have worked with him a few times over a long period on his previous aircraft. I can't say I agreed whatsoever with his decision or his desire to have an open seat next to him regardless of the length of the flight, but I would say that his apology is likely sincere based on my dealings with him and I'm not surprised that he sent it.

Just goes to show how no matter how long one has been in the field of aviation, and how experienced one might be, there is always room for growth and new learning to take place.
Nice ending to a bad story.

In an attempt to bring this discussion back on target, regardless of the face, name, previous work history or whatever of said individuals; and regardless of who got the Capt to be the "owner" of cockpit jumpseats, isn't it just bad style to leave a pilot behind?????
