I just shake my head when I read stuff like this. I've J/S in a 777 and there is plenty of room for 2 J/S and a crew of 4. How can you leave one of your own behind? But once again, I'm not surprised. " we have met the enemy, and it is us." Pro Stans needs to talk to this guy! End the fratricide!!!!!

First, I personally can see only one or two people I would leave behind, meaning there is enough of a personality conflict that given the choice I would not fly with that person and the same would go for letting them J/S on my flight.

We fought long and hard for the Captain to be able to make the call and the B777 is one giant cockpit, no courier seats because of the door. He let the jumper know early enough to make other plans and we do not know if he had personal reasons to not want this pilot on his aircraft.

No matter the reason, it is his choice, and that is the way we all need it to be. If this guy showed up even after he was denied that would torque me as well.

We need to take care of each other, no question, but in the life of real airlines there are many reasons someone makes choices like this. Was this a safety call? Rest Concerns or personality issues? IDK or care for that matter. The FOM, ALPA and the FAA rest that decision with the PIC. I do not think it makes sense to pound this guy into the ground without all the details. I would recommend that the pilot bumped call Pro Stan if he is concerned with the event.

Fly safe.

Cramped? The 727 is cramped with two empty jump-seats flying South Cone.

Yes, but why call/email the captain, or call Pro Stans, when you can anonymously start a three-page thread on APC before the flight even lands.

It's the captain's authority, or it ain't. We've had guys fired for defending that right. You got a problem with this captain, TALK TO HIM like a mensch.

I believe the OP was just trying to get some factual information out in the method most likely to spread the word and get attention. If the Captain in question does not want to be talked about on an anonymous board, then he should have taken the jumpseater.

If you have a problem with the original poster PM him and take the opportunity to make it personal, dont attack him on an anonymous web board.

Then is the OP "factual" when he launches the thread with calling the CA a "TOOL"?

It would be a good poll question for APC. Suggest you start the thread "Does Leaving a Fellow Pilot Behind Make You a Tool". I will reserve my opinion until I see the results of the poll.

Right, wrong, or somewhere in the middle this not unusual mindset here should be instructive.

For more than a few "standing strong" means making sure our personal comfort and next month's paycheck are maxed out. There is no such thing as sacrifice for the collective good. Unless someone else is doing the sacrificing for their good.

I can almost hear it now, "I've got mine, pull the ladder up"

I've had several FedEx jumpseaters onboard HKG-SFO including one yesterday.
They all seemed like pleasant guys to me and they are welcomed anytime.

One mentioned that there are certain individuals at FedEx that will not allow JS on his airplane because he does not like anyone sleeping in the empty rest seat next to him...
Sounds like the problem may lie with the Captain, and some peer pressure may be called for. Professional Standards would be a start.

Great suggestion, do you have the rest of the details to make an informed poll?

Some of you guys are so quick to support half baked campaigns, this guy might deserve every bit if this criticism, but without factual info and more importantly being handled in the proper channels this is nothing more than a pi$$ing contest.

Maybe we should debate fueling choices or diverts or any other decision a PIC makes. If it is a forgone conclusion that making your choice to deny a jumpseat then lets make it fair and open them all up without CA permission? What is the point of this system if the answer to a ride request should always be yes? according to some of you. Oh, that would take away CA Authority...
