Answer - yes. It is possible (not likely in this case, but possible) - talk about bad form - a guy on one of those lists having the audacity to even ask for a jumpseat (hint - happens all the time at FDX)

Don't we still have pilots at FDX that are on "The List"? non-members? etc....

(I'm not saying this HKG pilot is on any of these lists, most likely not - my comments are just "in general" here at FedEx)

It has been my experience since I've been here that not too many of our pilots even bother to check any of these lists - or care whether the other pilot is "on the team" or not.

Might help our unity if more people cared enough to check & hold folks accountable for THEIR choices/actions.

Funny how long this thread is and no one has even mentioned this as a possible reason to have been denied the jumpseat.

....fear not comrade, I keep a little black book with names in it.

Not arguing your point, (to an extent) but the bunks on a double crewed 14hr flight are NEVER empty except when required by FAR, climb and descent. The occasional workaholic may not sleep during flight, but very unlikely. Just saying....

No Gunter, it's, " I got mine, and you might not get yours."

I saw a large Capt show up twenty, thats 2 0 minutes, late to showtime with no reservation. He immediately bellows, "Hey, Bill I would have called you last night for a jumpseat but I was too drunk", across the AOC where everyone concerned can hear.

Then realizing there are NO seats left, he then yells, "Hey I'm operating this afternoon, what do you mean there are no seats?!?" He then smoozes the operating Capt (his buddy) and then the operating Capt kicks one of the other jumpers off the flight, who was holding a jumpseat pass in his hand."

Yes, I have seen a jumpseat beating before.

100% false. I jumped from hkg-MEM and two of the pilots never got in the bunk. In fact, some guys prefer the chairs and sleep better there. Btw, the crew was more than accommodating.

I'm confused. This happened in Memphis? The Memphis jumpseat people let the captain add a jumpseater 40 minutes before departure?

And what did he mean, "I'm operating this afternoon" if he's already at the AOC?

While I certainly do not condone the above behavior, we fought very Hard for Captain's authority with respect to the Jump-seat. And it sound like that is what happened. Again, I do not condone the Jump-seating Captain's behavior if that in fact did happen.

Good comes with bad. With respect to listing, Some Carriers use DOH as Jump-seat priority. Some Carriers it is first come first serve.
I have also seen Some Captains say ALPA Date of hire, if there are more jump-seat riders than seats. Most Carriers give their own Pilots Priority over offline. Ultimately it is the Captain who decides who rides his Airplane.

Wow, no details, don't know who the Capt. was, what was his side of the story, or the jumpseater's story, but hey, let's go ahead and stir the pot anyway.
