It has been in the contract since I have been here (Oct 2001). Some guy with a big mustache covered during indoc.

It may have been in 2001 but that would be the earliest. I know for a fact it did not come from FTL.

Default FPA Origin

4a2b originated in the FPA contract of 1999. We all thought it was a good idea. Prevent a furlough by spreading the pain among the ranks. We also thought the likelihood of it ever being triggered was remote.

Still, I'd rather have it than what happened to the all powerful IPA guys. Several of whom now work here.

Agreed. It was the right thing to do.

Not as satisfying on a monkey-flinging-poo level, I know. But it's the smart way to go.

And you can't just look at hourly rates - you have to look at BLGs and the overrides for international flying. But y'all knew that, didn't you. There's not a pilot alive that made more money than our senior 777 captains last year.

ALPA sucks? I could go into what all happened after each airline had a hull loss, the investigative support, the family awareness response. But I'll just let you guys laugh and scratch....

Wanna bet? Before our open time ban, which 99% of our pilots have honored btw, nobody came close to us, even the 777 *****s at FDX. You guys are treated better, get better catering, but are lulled into complacency and don't keep your eyes on the prize, which is pay and benefits. We may ***** about UPS, but our time off and pay is second to none, including FedEx.

And you probably voted for Obama. No reason to take a pay cut from a profitable company. We suffered 109 furloughs, but kept our self respect. I'm glad as heck I turned down FedEx.

Girls, don't you think it's time to drop this debate. We're all in this cargo business together. How about "cooperate and graduate."

That's good, because we've had quite a few that actually left UPS to come to FedEx. If you are needing a union to give you self respect, you probably should consider therapy.

If your working conditions are so great over there, why is it such a lousy place to work?

While we have a long way to go, I wouldn't trade contracts with UPS. I've got many friends at UPS and every one of them hates it. Pretty strong statement.

Good advice. And take what you read on here with a grain of salt. I've been IPA since we started and can tell you that 99% of us consider you guys at FDX as our brothers, different union or not. We DO have a very strong union, but as a previous post mentioned it's probably due more than anything to the way we get treated by UPS.

Different companies, different issues on a lot of fronts, same issues on others. It would be nice to see more communication between us during negotiation times so that we do not inadvertently undercut one another, hopefully we can develop some more of that.

Here's to both groups - let's just concentrate on raising the bar for everybody.
