Fdx: HKG fun fact...

I stand firmly behind my LEC Rep.
This is an extremely unfortunate situation we are dealing with and I feel the company has way overstepped their bounds. I hear many pilots are bidding out and I anticipate "bad will" for months or years to come.
However, the company has us right where they want us. No draft? No volunteer? No vacation buy back? No trip trading for additional time? Protect min days off? No problem! What does that cost them? 1 crew per day at the most?
First of all, with a significant number of pilots bidding out, the passover issue will go away (I am very sure they have taken that into account). Second, if they are short pilots then they turn up the sodomizer. There is a simple solution for the company to instantly grow a couple of crews per day. They can and will impose domestic rules on the HKG base. They have been talking about that for quite some time but fortunately haven't done that as of yet. With domestic rules in place they simply lay the ICN and PVG crews over at the airport and eliminate the 30+ hour layover. If they turn the layover versus an extended layover then they instantly free up two crews per day. Problem solved as far as the company is concerned.
Ok. Well, then no one will bid the HKG base... Who cares?! There are plenty of pilots out there who would gladly fly the left or right seat as a new hire (and would do a fine job BTW). As someone said in a different thread (I think), "Never underestimate your insignificance.." This is not struck work.
So maybe they fly some MEM crews over here for a while to get them over the hump until they re-work our schedule. Or maybe they decide that we win and the company loses. If nothing else, 4 people are still unemployed and we still lose two 30 hour layovers per day.
Guys, our best bet is to beat them in the court and get our fellow pilots their jobs back. The Company doesn't give a rats ass about us or the fact that we aren't flying anything extra. It just plays right into what they want. If nothing else, they solve their passover pay problem. If you look at the vacancies on the bid then you will figure it out. The only wide body Captain opportunities to speak of are in HKG. Looks like the passover pay dudes are screwed and I am sure there are a significant number of suits in MEM with a smile on their face.
Unless anything changes significantly, I will stand firmly behind my LEC Rep. He has one of the cooler heads. This is not the time for the HKG base to draw lines in the sand to destroy unity and alienate fellow members.
But then again, this could be completely off base and wrong.
And no...I am not the HKG LEC rep or Jack Lewis (per my suits comment, sorry Jack).......

I'm not sure why someone is HKG shouldn't be able to fly a draft trip if they choose. These guys made a stand and I hope it turns out OK for them, but to expect everyone else to toe the line is probably wishful thinking. Can a Memphis guy take a draft trip? Is that wrong as well?

I guess it depends on whether you think we should make it easier or harder for the company after they arbitrarilly fired 4 pilots. But personally I would not cover a HKG Draft trip if I were MEM based.

Transparency is a key component of "trust, but verify".

You stand firmly yet feel insignificant.
Why should anyone care how firmly you stand in this case?

As some of us fight a battle against marital discrimination that has wrecked the careers of both male and female pilots, it's great to see some of you are still living in the '50s. And I don't mean the 1950s . . .
