Rumors of new CP at FedEx

There has never been a requirement that the Chief Pilot of a FAR121 carrier be under age 60. Just can't fly revenue trips. BC was VP OPS, age 62-63. Just don't be suprised to see JL around for a while longer.

I thought that the SCP had to be a CAPT. If he is over 60, he isn't.

Because he's 60 on 1/24/07. And dammit Fox...when you turn 60 your brain turns to mush and your coordination fails and your hands start shaking like Michael J. Fox's...UNLESS you do the right thing and head out the exit while there is still a little life left to be lived.
Remember? I thought we settled this earlier!

The chief pilot position is mandated by FAR's. Whoever fills that job has to be a current and qualified pilot in any piece of equipment that the company flies. Right now, once you turn 60, that can't happen. JL could, however, be the new chief flight engineer if he chose to do so.

When JL took the job, he agreed/committed to stay through the contract negotiations. With the contract settled, JL has stated he would like to return to line flying.
On the rumor front, I have heard that the MD-11 chief pilot took the job to prepare and postion himself for becoming the System Chief Pilot.
