Actually we have 18 777's on the property and in revenue service. I'm guessing he's disguising the fact that 3 are flying secret panda missions.

With 4a2b they can hire until the next slowdown with little risk.

Used to be the company kept us real lean during peak, and paid a considerable amount of draft to line dogs and flexes, because they didn't want to be overmanned the rest of the year. No more need of that with their new schedule adjustment tool.

This is why we need to put more restrictions on use of 4a2b. They no longer feel the need to adhere to past scheduling practice.

Gunter,

I suspect a new employee is a whole lot more expensive than paying draft and volunteer for an existing employee.....especially if the employee is a geezer who's already maxed his high five and is already making money above any kind of limit they pay for payroll taxes. Even more so if they are flying any type of Make-up disability!

While I am ****ed about the whole excess/4a2b haircut....I think the company is far too business savvy to think having more pilots than they need most of the year is cheaper than draft and/or wet lease during peak.

If we were undermanned, we'd have a whole bunch of guys monitoring Gemini jets and complaining that there was no one beneath them on the seniority list.

They're definitely running the numbers. That's what they do. I haven't seen the 777, HKG or CGN line averages up too the level they were before yet they keep packing the crewmembers into those bidpacks. If they really think bringing on more employees is too costly, they're doing a poor job. IMHO they don't think more bodies is more expensive.

As far as keeping guys nearing retirement, they want them to stay. Every month they don't have to pay out on the A fund is gravy. It also reduces our life expectancy to keep working until 65 or, in the case of some engineers, 70+.

Until they issue their prognosis, the bid will be delayed. JG said that a limiting factor in the picture is the "end of the training schedule." So although a March bid was promised, they are reluctant to put out another one until the tea leaves are fully interpreted.

Chief Pilot said that a bid would have to be put out so that the capacity of the school house was not idled. Take that for what it is worth.....
