Default FedEx GSO hub

Whats the status of this facility? Seems like its taking forever for it to get up and running.

Been up and running for about 3 yrs or so now. No "hub" there, but I Jumpseat in/out often, and operate in/out a little less often. Beautiful facility, only about half used.

My avatar was taken enroute to BQN from GSO a couple years ago.

Any future expansion plans for the operations there? I remember it being built as a hub...new runway and all.

EWR was maxed out, and it was needed to relieve pressure there. Domestic volumes have been somewhat flat though.

Nice to have options when local governments, airport boards, or other outside forces infringe on your ability to do business. It also provides company leverage against any local airport monopoly.

Look at the issues with CAN, and the fact the company is expanding SIN ops. Look at how FRA ended up becoming a non-player with curfews and restrictions, to the delight of the folks at CGN. Sometimes an alternate is worth a lot--even if you aren't using it.
