Swedish,
Not sure why the hard-on for this kind of stuff. I don't think it's sour grapes with you b/c you never wanted to work here anyway.
Back when I was hired, the mins stated: Hours commensurate with experience. There was no minimum Turbine PIC, no min hours, none of that. Not even an ATP was required. Which is what made AA so attractive to apply to back then.
As for me, I was a lowly regional J41 F/O constantly hearing about guys getting interviews at AA through meetings with Cecil Ewell. OK, I said, I'll give it a shot too, what is there to lose? If they can do it why can't I. I called his office one morning at 6am and he answered. We chatted and he invited me to come down to DFW and deliver a resume. I did, he told me to fly my a$$ off and get up to 3000TT and I'd get an interview. Sure enough, got an interview 4 months later. I met the mins, I networked and I got the job. It ain't rocket science, the worst they can say is no, I had absolutely nothing to lose.
I'm not sure where you get the "asterisk" theory. I was just as qualified as everyone else in my interview group.
As for enjoying AA, believe it or not I am one of the few here still enjoying my job despite all the gloom and doom. I try and keep a positive outlook, otherwise I'd become one of "them" who constantly have a black cloud over their heads.
Good luck to you guys and to us all... it's gonna get ugly. We just got notice that management wants a meeting with all 3 unions Feb 1, supposedly to present the first items on the BOHICA agenda.

Nothing against you and you're right, AA wasn't really one my dream places. I was fortunate enough to be hired at my two dream jobs. One prior and one post 9/11.
While I know you were not complaining or whining about your predicament, I have met several who have/do (from different airlines). You know, the first day of class where everyone sort of talks about their background. Pre 9/11 some of these people in your position were very smug compared to the rest of us. I'm sure I would be too if I would have gotten that break. Post 9/11, all they do is complain about being "stuck" at a place or furloughed and having to go to another less desirable job to get the quals.
What irked about your post (I'm sure you didn't mean it that way), is the why can't I go to FedEx, UPS, SWA. I've got all these hours and type (IRO) ratings and should be hired before some Joe Schmo with 1500 hours PIC in an ATR,Dash 8, Saab, whatever.
I hear it a lot from people who cut the corner and now complain about it.
Hopefully BK won't be as bad as everyone thinks for you guys.

At least a King Air captain came to your rescue.

No, Swedish, if you knew me you would know I am not the type to gloat, and I'm DEFINITELY not the type to complain I can't move on. The only reason I talked about my type ratings was in response to an earlier poster who couldn't believe I would "wait it out and see what happens at AA." I was merely responding to him that I **CAN'T** move on to those cushy types of jobs b/c I don't have the quals.
OK, refresh my memory... King Air CA to the rescue? I did fly King Airs from '97-'98 so I'm guessing we know someone in common or even more, did we ever fly together at another place?

Nope I was SIC, only lasted 6 months and I moved on to a regional. Tough run, no way! I have been blessed in this career so far.

I meant tough run in that you have so much experience and no PIC turbine time - even in the mighty King Air! It doesn't limit your mobility.
