Flying for FedEx?

... They're the same ones that have been stuck slinging gear for 15+ years making under $100 an hour. They passed on the box haulers to "see what happens".
Anything but a cargo carrier these days doesn't make sense. I'd go get a desk job that actually pays a decent wage before it's time to retire and it's too late. My two cents.

Staying put to see what happens?!?!?! The passenger carrier model is so broken there's no way that any legacy carrier will ever see a respectable contract, better work rules, etc ever again. American? United? I'm dying to get on and fly with their age 55+ flight attendants. It really adds to the experience. Oh, and once a merger comes at American, it will be REALLY awesome for the pilot groups. Just like United, Continental, Delta, and Northwest. 30 years to upgrade to narrow body MD-80 captain is exactly how I envisioned my life's work.
I know a bunch of United Pilots waiting to "see what happens". They're the same ones that have been stuck slinging gear for 15+ years making under $100 an hour. They passed on the box haulers to "see what happens".

Unfortunately, many of us- myself included-don't have the quals to move on to airlines like Fedex. Yes, I have over 10K hrs, all FO time... however, I never made Captain at the regionals before AA so I have exactly ZERO hours PIC Turbine, which pretty much renders me unhireable at places like Fedex. I have a full 737 Type rating from having flown the 737 last year - can't even go to SWA, since they also require Turbine PIC. I have DC-9 SIC type, full 757/767 type... doesn't help me much.
So yes, I am stuck with AA, unless I want to start over again at an LCC like Jetblue or go to Atlas or Kalitta.
I guess I'll be one of those 20+ year FOs slinging gear while marveling at some of the great careers my compadres are having at other airlines. Hey, no sympathy for me, I am one of the happiest at-peace pilots you'll ever meet, but that's because this job does not define me in the least.
See ya on the radio...

p.s. I want to say a big heartfelt THANKS for all of you who have given me a valuable insight into working for Fedex.

I know this is out of place but is there any good way to get from the ramp in ATL over to the airline terminal or just call a cab? I jumpseated on yall for the first time last trip but the captain was very nice and offered me a ride over himself. Thanks again and sorry for the random post and thanks again to the crew that helped me get home last week I appreciate it!
There number is 404.209.9999. good luck

The minimums must not have applied to the CE friends anf family hiring program. I suppose only under Kudwa did they take away the asterisk where everyone was equal.
Enjoy AA.

Not sure why the hard-on for this kind of stuff. I don't think it's sour grapes with you b/c you never wanted to work here anyway.
Back when I was hired, the mins stated: Hours commensurate with experience. There was no minimum Turbine PIC, no min hours, none of that. Not even an ATP was required. Which is what made AA so attractive to apply to back then.
As for me, I was a lowly regional J41 F/O constantly hearing about guys getting interviews at AA through meetings with Cecil Ewell. OK, I said, I'll give it a shot too, what is there to lose? If they can do it why can't I. I called his office one morning at 6am and he answered. We chatted and he invited me to come down to DFW and deliver a resume. I did, he told me to fly my a$$ off and get up to 3000TT and I'd get an interview. Sure enough, got an interview 4 months later. I met the mins, I networked and I got the job. It ain't rocket science, the worst they can say is no, I had absolutely nothing to lose.
I'm not sure where you get the "asterisk" theory. I was just as qualified as everyone else in my interview group.
As for enjoying AA, believe it or not I am one of the few here still enjoying my job despite all the gloom and doom. I try and keep a positive outlook, otherwise I'd become one of "them" who constantly have a black cloud over their heads.
Good luck to you guys and to us all... it's gonna get ugly. We just got notice that management wants a meeting with all 3 unions Feb 1, supposedly to present the first items on the BOHICA agenda.
