Time to replace my carry-on bag. Currently AD USAF, hoping for a 121 gig within 2 years. I've come across some excellent roller bags from both Tumi and Eagle Creek with high-tech ballistic nylon, modern features, etc. They have excellent warranties. All of my bros at the airlines seem to rock the LW Stealth 22, no exceptions. When my bro passed through last week on his way home, I saw his Stealth. HEAVY, ugly, and seemingly indestructible. The offerings from Eagle Creek/Tumi are lightweight, functional, incorporate a "pack-it" modular system and are also seemingly indestructible. Is anything but a steel framed monstrosity futile for the airlines? I'd like to use one carry-on for both work and personal travel.

Eagle Creek Flashpoint Tarmac 20 Wide Body

Eagle Creek Tarmac 22

Heathrow Continental Carry-On - Tumi

De Gaulle International Carry-On - Tumi

Read the thread completely, plus there are a couple of others extant.

My goodness! You'd spend $1100.00 for a carry-on?

I've had good luck with the StrongBag, myself. The Costco option is also good. I'm overseas, where there are no Costcos. A defacto standard, at least over here, is a bag that fits in the overhead lengthwise. A 22" bag won't do this on all mainline aircraft. StrongBags sells a 19" version. Those Eagle Creeks look intriguing, but they likely won't fit under a Boeing jumpseat. Samsonite has some nice 19" bags that are popular over here; they've put out some real junk in recent years, but their stuff seems to be holding up better lately.

I'd go with the Costco - or some other cheap option - until you get hired and see what everybody else has.

$1100.00? Really?

Okay while I know I'll be in the minority(since after all we are all cheap pilots) I'm a huge fan of Tumi luggage. It's all I buy. I once had my Tumi bag fall from the top of a baggage loader on a C-5 with my new laptop in it. Long story short laptop and bag fine, it sold me on them long term. Still have that same carry on bag and even though I had to send it back for some fixing(which was free) it's still going strong. Best $400 I've spent on luggage.

Just remember whatever you do pay for any of your luggage you get to write it off on you taxes.

If your interested in Tumi bags you would probably do better to look at the Alpha line. Those bags are pretty stout and though they are still on the expensive side their not as bad as $1100.00 !!!

I just don't know if it would be enough room.
Strongbags gets my vote hands down. I have the 22 inch original and it's still trucking hard. I commute and have had mine going on for 5 years. I had my neighbor weld it for safe keeping but I'll never buy another bag. If you have an issue the owner will call you on the phone or email you same day and take great care of you. To me customer service means a lot and I'm not sure of the purdy neats but strongbags is awesome.

Agreed and agreed. I have the Alpha line or it's past equivalent. $1100 is ridiculous.
