I disagreed with the the last contract and 3% raise. I thought it was a bad move then and I still think that way. However, since we gave up our leverage, we'd be stupid not to take the 3% now. We have very little that the company wants. Let's finally get the work rules resolved and see how that shakes out.

So let me see if I have this straight.
While we wait for the new rest rules to be released, and during the worst economy in decades...
We can turn down the 3% and keep talking. Or,
We can take the 3% and keep talking.
Got it.

Man (or woman) I couldn't agree more...we pi$$ed away any and all leverage when we agreed with the first 3%...I say we take the second 3% and bail...the time to pick a fight has come and gone...
When will we ever learn?
When will we ever learn?

Agree 100%, the apathy that allowed these DW clones back in office is frightening.

i imagine a large part of the 65% thinks it was folly to give away all of our leverage for a couple of 3% pay raises. But think the only thing dumber would be to have given it all away for one 3% pay raise.
In other words, you can think it was a mistake to sign the last contract and still think we should take the 3%.

Well folks, it is gonna be close! Even though the crew force overwelmingly wants the 3%, many of your block reps will vote contrary to their constituents wants. I highly recommend each and every one of you email or call your rep and personally inform him of your view and find out where he or she stands! After that reiterate to them that their duty is to vote the way the majority in their block want. Their opinion on the matter, while possibly worthwhile, is totally irrelevant!! If the MEC votes this down and then the survey results show the contrary, there will be irrevocable damage to the trust the crew force put in their elected officials!

. We have overwhelmingly told our MEC that we want to Take the 3% at this time and keep talking. Now that we suspect that they might do something different during the MEC meeting in January then 1. Every crew member needs to contact their Rep and communicate their exact expectations for their representation, demand the release of the negotiating survey results (well prior to the January meeting), and demand that the vote in January be recorded by block in the minutes and not taken in executive session (i.e. we want to know who voted what), and 2. If that representation is other than the Majority designation then immediate recall initiated for all Reps who voted in contrary. We elected them to represent our best interests , and where designated execute our instructions when provided. We have certainly provided our instructions in this case. Take the 3%. Period. I cannot stress strongly enough the need for all to spread this discussion throughout the Crew Force. This needs to "go viral". Tell a friend...and then tell another.

Of course we need the 3%. Heck, UPS gets a 4%er January 1st (why did we settle for 3?) and will top even our top Widebody rates. Add in guarantee, and we're well behind brown. But I digress.
Speaking of UPS, they'll be determining our pay anyway at some point in time once they have a contract in place. No need for us to even touch compensation once we're back at the table.

Based on past negotiations and FedEx's ability to get us to embrace work rules that they know will help there future plans, to the pilots' detriment, I'd take a 3% raise and the current work rules every year going forward. Probably not popular, but tired of waiting to collect the hidden money. How are those Grid Penalty Events working out for us?
