It's not rumor, it's a fact. I made two of the fatigue calls. It was the DP pairing that nobody picks up in CGN. Scheduling couldn't cover it without breaking it up or moving the DH from Sunday afternoon to Monday morning. They chose to move it to Monday morning turning a bad pairing into a horrible one. Then it never operates as planned due to construction in BHX and you have a recipe for very, very little time behind the door for crew rest. Guys were dropping like flies and it finally got changed.

As gearhorn said, most FO's who left right at the 2 year mark did it to protect passover (no longer an issue), and also because they had come over mostly to get on property, not because they were really wanting to move with their families. It's obviously very different to come over with a bid, voluntarily, compared to coming overseas only to get the job.

Yes, there has to be a vacancy posting, and you need to have the seniority to hold a seat outside of CGN, to leave prior to the 4yrs 9mos. HKG has a slightly different setup whereby one can leave at 3years-ish, with a 6 month heads up, and some other requirements. The difference is that CGN has the maximum duration of 4y9m, whereas HKG does not have a limit.

Is the five year limit a career limit, or can you do five as an f/o, return stateside for an amount of time and then bid back as a Captain for another five years?

Once you're out of Germany for one year, the clock is reset and you can bid back.

Imagine that. Don't fly the DPs, call in fatigued and they get fixed. Now only if the Memphis folks could just figure it out.

Thumbs up Fatigue Calls

If you're fatigued, call fatigued regardless of base and seat.
Just called FAT first time ... MEM 11 ... damn glad I did.

Filled out Fatigue report. No issues so far.

How does a CGN pilot attain a visa to live in Germany? Or HKG for that matter? Does the company deal with that or does it fall upon the pilot?
