Can I get hired by FedEx?
Hello fellow aviators!
I applied to FedEx in March of 2011. I am a C-130 driver for the Air Guard. I currently have 5600 total time. I am a civilian instructor as well as a military instructor and stan/eval evaluator pilot. I have about 3000 hours of turbo prop time and 300 hours of jet time. I do not have any airline experience but lots of international cargo hauling experience. My question is, am I competitive? I am keeping my profile updated. Any advice?

All joking aside, your professional experience seems to be competitive. FedEx has recently adapted the "analysis" process for potential hires. The terms have been discussed at length in another thread, so no need to re-enter the conversation here. Elements of this "improved" system include an analysis of how long it took you to finish college, a "sweet spot" of hours (no more than 7,000 if I recall correctly...) and other pertinent issues for pilot stability and employability such as the color of your 2nd car.
It seems that the company hired an analyst of some sort who had successfully sold them on the concept that simple flying experience, knowledge and skills are not what makes a great pilot. Too young or too old is bad, along with too many hours, a college BS is better than a BA, things like that. The old methodology of knowing exactly what FedEx is looking for, and then working to attain those credentials and experience seems to have been set aside for a scientific methodology designed to keep some analyst employed by FedEx for the foreseeable future.
You ain't in Kansas anymore, Toto. Few outside of the walls of the hiring empire know or understand the complete set of rules. Some feel that some of these crazy "desirable" or "undesirable" attributes are but a means to screen out "unwanteds" without questioning by the Feds or labor attorneys ("Refused employment at FedEx, Call me, Corey B. Trotz...").
Internal sponsors still seem to be an important aspect of the process.

I'm a reserve C-130 guy finishing up UPT in the next few months.....how long did it take you to get that amount of flight time? I'm considering bumming at my unit when I get done, just don't know what to expect.

Graduate first, that's the goal. Then when you get back from 130 training, your squadron will probably want you full-time for a while. Do it. Get every flight you can. Go on every XC and local you can. The time will come if you are always willing to fly. Realistically? 8 years or so out of UPT seems to be the number as far as how long it takes to be competitive for a job at a major.

It's a math equation to get the interview from what I understand. 3 Rec's +1, "top tier" University degree +1 (I believe the academies don't count), college GPA 2.5-3.5 +1, hours some but not too much +1, type flown +1 (don't think 130 gets you a point there), etc. The wizard evaluates your profile and if the numbers are right you are granted an interview. There are a bunch more criteria but your guess is as good as anyone's what they are. Good Luck.

Trying to respond to all post here. Sponsor says to stand by. I hear hiring is slowing down through peak season. I am in the GA ANG. I have 8 recommendations, two are from Captains and the rest are First Officers and a manager from Indianapolis. I am just trying to figure out how to get the WHOPPER computer to pull my name out the hat. Maybe it will happen after the first of the year. Come on 2012.
