I don't think it ever was stated as even being officially part of the criteria, much less of any significant importance. I have not gone back and looked at the extensive post from a couple months ago that detailed the new hiring paradigm and hypothesized about the formula, but I don't recall community service being a significant aspect (my my recollection it was lots of focus on where you went to college, your major, and your GPA that took people by surprise).

It was all a reaction to this post on page 2:

Do you have this on your resume????
An overblown, reactionary discussion about a relatively minor point. Par for the course at APC.

Agree, can't be denied that a later response to the what you quoted helped to "fuel the fire" so to speak.

It seems that knowing somebody in senior management to haul your water or being current in the MD-11 was much more important than the recently added question about professional organizations you belong to.

Yeah, you can get hired at Fedex. They will straighten this process out eventually. Probably.

I was recently told, that in the recent past, being part of certain professional organizations and attending their conference was equal to having a sponsor.
If its true now I'm not sure. But I don't see why it'd change.
And, as noted, having MD-11 time was equal to a sponsor as well, as more than a few guys without a sponsor got called, as they were current in MD-11s.

So if community service ranks higher than military service, shouldn't there be "community leave" available after they're hired. I also have never heard "E's" bashed by anyone frankly (other than John Kerry and I think he meant everyone). I have heard a few E's inappropriately complemented though.

It would be very unlikely to hear someone outright bashing enlisted men and women because that is considered inappropriate and rude and highbrow for that matter. BUT, it is good sport and darn near expected to sit and listen to the regular bashing of officers FROM those past and present enlisted. Might as well call it part of the harassment based maturing process for those 'boots'.
