Can I get hired by FedEx?

Just wondering where this idea that community service is so important in the FedEx hiring process is coming from? It may be a part of the new application process to list it, and it may give you a fraction of a point in the scoring method, but who's to say military service doesn't do the same thing. Bottom line, nobody on this board knows exactly how the scoring works exactly and I doubt it counts for very much.

It's common knowledge that community service is near the top of the list of important attributes for a FDX candidate. Military service is WAY down the list...Right below Boy Scout rank, Fraternity affiliation, sibling position, shoe size, show-tune repertoire and animal husbandry techniques.

Bear in mind, FedEx isnt the only one using it as a metric to rank a candidate. DAL puts an emphasis on it as well.
All it is is another way to narrow down a field of thousands of qualified applicants that all have similar enough backgrounds and experience levels. I mean, remember when it WASN'T that long ago that a college degree wasn't required pretty much everywhere?

True. "Their house, their rules as they say". Or, it's just a "sign of the times".

I think you misunderstand. I'm asking where this idea that community service is a big deal came from. I think the importance of it is being way overstated on this forum. No where have I heard in the hiring process that it's a discriminator of significant importance.

If any of you thought I was slamming non-flyers, or enlisted, or anyone who is not a military flyer, you completely misred both of my posts. Nothing about being more meritous. Nothing about deserving of a job. Nothing about holier-than thou. Nothing about military-vs-civilian, either.
I described MY experience as both a non-flyer and a flyer, and noted that I did have opportunities for community service as a non-flyer, but I did not have those opportunities as a flyer.
I also expressed that I would be disappointed if FedEx failed to recognize that difference.
I said, when it comes to the difference between flyers and non-flyers in the military, "There's an incredible difference in terms of both lifestyle and point of view." I find it tough to believe that anyone could find that statement insulting.
Anything inferred by anyone else into what I wrote is representative of their own perceptions and not my beliefs.
