I guess I am confused on this feature of fx-cal. Is the Autopoll supposed to be used only at a certain time, like open time release--or do people just keep their iphone connected to VIPS for hours and let this thing keep refreshing? How do you use this feature??

I don't use that feature.

National Geographic World Atlas is well worth the money. It does require you to download the detailed maps for specific regions, but it makes for a good read when flying cross continent as it contains info on each country such as history, population etc...

I would ask Siri which apps she thinks I should get. Look at this article from USA Today...
My favorite: "USA TODAY told Siri it loved her. The answer: "Oh stop."
Apple iPhone 4S' Siri says the darnedest things ? USATODAY.com

All browsers cache information, but FxCal will store and present specific information, like your calendar and trip info, offline.
All browsers can auto refresh (poll) a web page and any differences will show up visually, but FxCal will vibrate and or ping when it sees new Open Time.
You will still have to enter a BOT code every ten polls.
FxCal will show open time trip information and how it matches your calendar to help in your decision and prefill all forms for you to submit the request.
FxCal is on the correct platform, meaning a smartphone that is always with you, so you are not tied to your hotel room or home while working on open time.
FxCal is a highly used app by those who have it. It checks its subscription status with each login to VIPS. Based on these checks, more than half of its users use it DAILY or more.

FxCal is not a bot, as it does not try to hack any of the CAPTCHA that the company has implemented for trip trades, logins, etc, nor will it auto trade or make any decisions on its own. It is simply a better browser on a better platform for accessing VIPS.

Here's my international bag of apps
Here are the apps I use during my trips. Some are free, the paid ones listed get my personal thumbs up approval for value. Many apps require wifi or cellular data for use or updates. CAUTION: Make sure you understand the gigantic bill you'll get if you use international data roaming without an international data plan or other work-around. Have fun!
Google Voice (call forward your cell to this number, and get a text mail transcript of their voicemail message for free, instead of that costly $3.95/minute cell phone call from your golfing buddy while you're having a cool one at the Long Bar in Dubai)
TextFree (FREE unlimited texting when in wifi, and low cost calling like Skype)
Google Translate (works GREAT, needs wifi or data)
Skype (nuf said)
Skype WiFi (if you really, really, really need WIFI to Skype scheduling when at airport)
Crew Rest (why try and do the math)
AeroWeather (I only use the free version, does everything I need)
Snowtam(int'l snowtam decoder)
The Weather Channel
Currency (easy to use, free, and has almost every currency)
Around Me
Cultures
Urban Spoon (some international limits, good restaurant guide domestic US)
Word Lens (Spanish to English, works like magic on menus)
Crew Show (the alarm function is currently inop for iPhone iOS5)
Wikihood (info on what really neat stuff is around your current location)
Cardstar (stores all my ff and hotel account #s)
pic2shop (shopping barcode reader, iPhone Google app will do same thing)
Cyclemeter (works for hiking, biking, walking, running, etc)
