Hi, below is a partial copy from another EA thread last year RE: furloughs.
(They last did it in 2008 - hired about 25 pilots that year from Jan-July 2008, furloughed all of them Dec. 31 2008. Some were back as early as Feb. 2009, last guy back in Oct. 2009.)
Actually EA had a March class of 6 earlier this year. By summer, those 6 and two from an earlier class were furloughed too. All recently called back before this round...........unfortunately.

I wonder if the Evergreen MEC even has furlough protection language on the table when they negotiate with management or is it like many airlines, stacked with very senior pilots who couldn't care less about the plight of the junior guy and simply chalk it up to "well, I was furloughed twice myself back in '78"
I heard their pay proposal was just like that..... a windfall for Captains with 10+ years and all but a slap in the face for FO's with less than 5 years. Our 2nd year Atlas FO's are making more than their 16 year FO's... much less some of their junior captains ... how pathetic.

how much are they saving in the grand scheme of things, with most of those being FO's making $40K a year at best... How does Kalitta, Atlas and other ACMI's make ends meet in the slow season?

Unless they have an excess of people quitting, they will typically furlough at the first of the year.

We all simply have to laugh at ourselves, because we are still in this industry. If we were any smarter we would get out for good. Unfortunately we have this thing called "passion for flying"...it truly is a disease.

To top it off, the first week after the furlough they post over 20 trips into open time....and they all get picked up. It's like that every week while people are furloughed.

Tammany and Bubba are probably drooling over all the open time. They will just sleep on the airplane enroute to their next assignment and get paid 36 hours for a days work. Boy do I miss that place...I need a shower just thinking about it.
