I hope you are not implying that the IPA Forums are flame-less and secure ?

Over a hundred IPA have retired since furlough.
The FQS hiring is driven by the number of checking events UPS needs to cover.

IPA pilots aren't allowed to conduct sim or line checks. Divide the number of evaluations each year by the amount one person can do annually and that should approximate the number of FQS's required.

Yes, there are some extra duties that are covered by the FQS, but well over half of their man days are used for line and sim checks.

Unless the IPA can get checkrides, there will always be a lot of FQS's.

You are exactly right. UPS will not give checking up unless something of more value can be gained during negotiations. You can bet on it

According to anonymous UPS sources, the IPA will never get checking. It's the only thing that separates an FQS from a line crewmember.

In other words, it's an easier "class and craft" argument for UPS to maintain a separate pilot group if they have sole right to the checking part of the "craft".

The ironic part is that every IPA IOE instructor has a check airman letter over at the FAA office. It's UPS that won't let them evaluate anyone.

Even more ironic is the fact that ALL instructors and evaluators go through the same training process (IECQ), so there really is no different skill set that the FQS have that a line crew does not.

Ever! There is nothing the IPA would offer that UPS would consider of more value.

I would not hold my breath on that one. Its the only thing I will give a yes vote for on the next TA. If the IPA does not get check airman letters, then its a big NO. There are more than a few on the IPA side that feels the same way.

I hear you, it would earn a NO vote from me too. I'm just repeating what I've heard, UPS looks at IPA checking, just like the IPA looks at preferential bidding - a non-starter.

I would check your facts on this one. What do you think a international over the water check is? Our IPA instructors sign the evaluation forms on these rides.

True, but we don't release them to the line. The paperwork gets carried back to SDF/ANC to be signed by an FQS.
