Yeah, the place sucks. Worst management/labor relationship I have ever seen. Don't ever trust them, biggest bunch of liars I have ever encountered.

Ok, So yes the pilots themselves can fly for free on a jumpseat, but no they cannot bring their families?

I have a few friends who are able to fly anywhere for free because they have a parent who works for an airline. If cargo companies aren't the same way that is a shame, I feel like that would be one of the major benefits for being a pilot

Not to sound defensive but your friends get to fly for free they also have the pleasure of getting bumped and left for hours or overnight waiting for that free ride. Not too many open seats lately from my experience.

The FARs have limits on who can be carried on aircraft without flight attendants (see 121.583). These limits don't include wives, kids, grandparents, or the family dog. We're not set up to handle them.

You should probably focus on becoming a pilot at a pax carrier.

Pre 9/11 all FedEx employees had access to the company jumpseats, it was a big "selling" tool benefit to get people to throw boxes at 2am. Post 9/11 the jumpseat is restricted to to only flight personnel (ie. pilots, mechanics, dispatchers).

As far as flying family around for free, that has never been a perk for cargo haulers. Plus, as previously stated, flying standby these days is a total crap shoot at best. 2 people flying together...possible, a family of 4 trying to fly standby...not a chance.

You (or your family) can fly for free or you can work for an all-cargo airline that actually makes money...like FDX and UPS do.

And no matter what the UPS guys here say, it is a matter of perspective...lots of guys would give their you-know-what to work there.

Sorry for being harsh, but basing your career decision based on a benefit that is ifffffy at best may not be a sound decision.

Sure ZED tickets and such are benefits, but why not travel on a ticket with your family and an actual seat assignment. There are plenty of good deals out there these days. Or after just a short time at one of the box-haulers, you'll have plenty of miles to use/share for (positive space) tickets.

Being able to spell benefit might help also.

If you are looking for a career where you can travel cheap. I would suggest working for the hotels. 1) You will spend more on them (hotels) than airline tickets, 2) you will have more control over where and when you go somewhere.
