Yes, there are some "personal attacks" in this thread. Thank God I'm not based on the planet so I don't have to endure Mr. Lavenender's version of a "personal attack"; his box stuffers.

A call to pay your dues and/or return your signing bonus is not a personal attack, however. It's a call to finally step up to the plate and do the right thing. But that won't happen, will it? Of course it won't because that effects what really matters. The bottom line.

[QUOTE=CargoBob;63812]Bob, How long have you wanted the age 60 rule to be abolished?? Did it start just recently?

What about the FO being paid more than the Capt? I think that was Bob's windmill prior to the age 60. Just can't upgrade. At least Bob knows his limitations.. Not a personal attack just the truth. Hurts sometimes. Must be getting close to 60 now.

Wow, they make an extra $35,000 their first year but could sacrafice several hundred thousand dollars in their career. Go back and read AA's apology in the Majors forum...expecting your's any time!

Perhaps you should reread my posts in that thread. I did not side with av8r4aa, I did not attack military pilots, and I do not have a problem with reservists flying combat.

Point to a specific comment I made for which I owe an apology, and I'll offer it immediately.

I believe what may rub some (me included) the wrong way is your implication that because SOME reservists MIGHT be RUMORED to abuse the system, the rest of us should hang our heads in shame. That somehow this (mis)perception of abuse smears all of us together. In my view it's a self-correcting problem. I.e., if someone is gaming the system outside the legal boundaries, they're going to pay the penalty. No different from somebody abusing sick leave, deviation bank, etc. It's a very dangerous game to play, with an awful lot riding on the line. Eventually you'll get called to the carpet. So, by that logic should I be "enraged" that someone is abusing sick leave, when I myself use sick leave a couple of times a year? Au contraire, mon frere. Why should I give two sh!ts? If he wants to hang his manhood out to be chopped off, that's his prerogative. It's got zippo to do with me. Same goes for military leave. If you're abusing the system, you'll be dealt with. I lose no sleep whatsoever worrying that these so-called abusers will "ruin" this peach of a deal for the rest of us. We've got a little thing called the Federal Government backing us up in the form of USERRA. All so we can lose untold thousands of dollars a year for the privilege of working harder, aggravating our wives, and ****ing off BOTH bosses in the hopes of a miniscule retirement stipend twenty years down the road. Stop second-guessing us.

While I did say that one guy abusing the system might lead to rumors that paint everyone in a bad light, I did NOT imply that the rest of us/you should hang our/your heads in shame. I believe av8r4aa was overreacting to a rumor about abuse that likely grew from a small incident, or even a misperception, that came to sully the reputation of all Reservists/Guardsmen, at least in his eyes. If I were one of the innocent Guardsmen unfairly cast in av8r4aa's stereotype, I wouldn't feel a need to hang my head in shame. On the contrary, I'd be mad at the guy who placed the black mark on our reputation in the first place.

Yeah, that's how it works in real life. A couple of pilots spend all night partying in the hotel bar and try to fly 5 hours later with a Blood Alcohol level that's through the roof. Like it or not, people who witness or learn of the incident will adjust their perception of you based on that incident. Whether you drank right up to the limit, or didn't touch a drop, people will wonder if you're like the "other" drunk pilots.

Do I hang my head in shame when I hear of pilots trying to fly drunk? No. It makes me angry. I don't like being smeared just because some moron doesn't have the judgment to stop drinking before he flies. (I know, that was redundant.)

If they get caught, true. Apart from an ACP calling the unit to double-check, I know of no mechanism that can be used to police abuse. Do you?

Interesting wording.

Listen, I'm thankful for your service, and glad you're willing and able to fill the billet. But you might be overdoing it just a bit when you whine about how tough it is. Remember you volunteered, right? Thank you for your sacrifice.

Not whining in the least, merely re-stating the fact that people aren't in the Guard/Reserve business because it makes their lives easier. Face it Tony, you jumped in on the wrong side of that argument and all your verbal re-routes aren't covincing me.

My apologies for contributing to thread creep. As my penance, I have pasted the "off subject" posts to the appropriate thread where I will make any further posts on THAT subject.

Anyone interested in THAT subject please direct your comments here: Airline abuse from Military Guys

We now return you to your regularly scheduled Freeloaders thread.
