Shaggy...
That is a bit harsh. Duksrule has some salient points. We complain about catering, internet, furloughs, etc., but at the same time we're making good coin. There are other airlines out there with furloughs and a host of problems that makes ours look insignificant.
While I wish ups was leaning forward for the economy, the reality is that they have always been very careful moving forward. The reality is that we will probably never have more than 3000 pilots and the upgrade times are going to be 15 yrs +. The good side is that a ups 15 yr fo is making more than a delta capt and can count on job security. Those at the bottom (at any airline) will always be subject to furlough, no matter what is preached at indoc.

The things are brought up are relatively small. There are many more important issues but those should highlight life at UPS.
Many on the outside wear rose colored glasses. I brought up Internet and breakfast for a couple reasons. You think it is a great place when you start. As time goes on and you see FedEx, Evergreen and others check in to a hotel and get things you don't, it illustrates the relationship between the company and pilots. If those places get it, why don't we? Additionally, there used to be a phone system you could call in and do bids, scheduling, etc. The company has done away with it so everything is web based. So something I used to be able to do for free may now cost $30 for the Internet to do the same.
Whistlin Dan, there isn't another airline that has a management pilot set up like UPS. And if you want to pay for things yourself, feel free. But wouldn't you want someplace to have things for other pilot groups/companies to aim for?

FP, many of us talk about upgrading because it means we're growing. While you say you're not hung up on it, would you be happy at your current seniority making 150k forever?

Say you want to work at UPS? Why? The money? You want everyone to quit? I guarantee if they did and let a group of people with your attitude take over the pay would be that of a first year regional pilot when this next contract comes up for a vote.
Ever wonder why someone working at McD's makes more money and has better benefits than a new regional pilot? Look in the mirror!

It reminds me of before I retired from the service. Everyone hated this, hated that could make a better living here or more QOL there..... both in the ready room and in the enlisted ranks. I was the first to say if you don't care for your job, do something to change it or find another one but to come to work and complain just infects moral. Funny all of them were always at work the next day.

What mirror?? I don't fly for a living, I fly for fun. I guess that if by saying getting free internet or a free breakfast isn't that big of a deal makes me have an "attitude" well then I must have one. Some of the points brought up were quite valid and you should fight for change. But to sit at the top of the ladder and complain about tiny things just seem petty when there are people strugling to feed thier families.

On another subject it seems to me that UPS must have pictures of our EB in a compromising position. There is no doubt we all are working much more. Hot stby launches for extra sections are common, daily JAs etc. mean that our system is stressed. The IPA EB basically gives the company all the excuses they need to MEF, outsource, and keep our guys on the street. The IPA leadership needs to be accountable. It befuddles me that BT (Pres) has gotten a free pass on the arithmetic issue. He should have resigned and when he didn't the membership should have dmanded it, despite what the union goons on the B&G say.

Thanks for your service to our country. I know you have made countless sacrifices during your career. Why you stayed in is probably the guaranteed benefits after doing 20+ years (or it made it tolerable at times). I was under the false impression that once I got hired at a company that NEVER has lost money and "Welcome to your last job!!" type of mentality, I was set. Never furloughed. Not gonna happen. Wrong. It was something to see a company that is making money move me and my family to Alaska, then furlough me. Lost my house and most of my stuff. Had to pay my way back to the lower 48 because there was no work for me to do in Alaska. I tried to find work but had some better options further south. Imagine during your last tour in Europe or somewhere overseas with 17 years in all the sudden the Air Force said we no longer need your services. Bye. No move. No benefits. NOTHING. I am sure you would not have a smile on your face then. I have to say that I actually feel fortunate to have what I have after this debacle. I am working at a non flying job making decent money. If it were not for the benefits the UNION (Thanks IPA!!!) provided with medical coverage I would have probably went into bankruptcy because 2 of my children have medical conditions that would make us ineligible for coverage (without costing a fortune). I now have a job with benefits and no longer collect unemployment nor benefits from the Union. It was very hard for me to deal with this set back (both financially and personally). I fortunately have experience in a technical field that is in demand and found work.
UPS could treat their employees much better. Of course that could be said about most companies, but being dumped in Alaska with nothing is a bit low.

You are right about that JustUnderPar. They do need a lesson on how to treat people more like people. I work for UPS an have been displaced to Alaska. I wasn't happy with it, but I am prior service too. I learned to deal with it an move forward. Overall, I am happy still happy with working for UPS. I learned a very long time ago, "never take it home with you". Makes life great, no matter how bad it can get. An if people don't like the fact that I'm happy, "oh well, deal with it!"
I hope they start calling you guys back tomorrow. Every time my phone rings for a J/A an I DON'T answer, makes me feel like I'm sending them the hint, "its time for a recall"
Good Luck. Stay Strong.
