So what is so bad at UPS? Do they kick you in the junk every time you get on or off the plane? I would think that most people could endure even that for $150K + a year. Now I can see hating your job if you have to put up with BS at $16K a year like a regional pilot but at the money UPS and FEDEX guys make they should be able to take A LOT of BS and keep smiling.
It is funny to bounce around the different sections of the board. Fedex hates 777 crews who don't let them jump seat, UPS hates the company itself, Regional pilots hate the low time guys trying to break into the business....etc.
I guess no one in is really happy anywhere.

Let's see...your biggest competitor is buying airplanes, hiring, and growing. They have 6 year upgrades, UPS has pilots on furlough and upgrade, well...
You don't get things that other companies get, ex: free Internet on layovers, breakfast, or decent catering on flights(domestic, int'l isnt bad) just to name a few. Also, 100+ non union management pilots to take up the slack.
How's that for starters.

I try to give people the benefit of the doubt most times too but if free Internet on layovers, breakfast, or decent catering on flights are the things that are wrong with UPS then I think you should all quit. It is hard to hear that someone that makes what a UPS pilot makes is upset about this stuff. I am not saying that there aren't things to be upset about but come on. I imagine that there are a line of people that would gladly take those hardships to make that money.

Duksrule,
That's twice you've mentioned UPS pilot salary, and how you can't understand why someone making that amount has anything at all to complain about. Actually, it's human nature to complain about things, and the UPS guys have plenty to complain about. As for pay, yeah, well, it's really good, but you need to understand that once you've grown accustomed to it, it doesn't seem like all that much. At that point you start to wake up to the injustices that are happening all around you, when at the start of your employment, you just didn't see them. Then, if you look at the rest of your industry, or more specifically, your competitors, and see that they're growing, while you're shrinking, and they're taking delivery of additional lift, while you're staying stagnant, or worse, getting rid of jets, you'll understand the frustration that is expressed here. I understand that you feel they shouldn't complain, but being in their shoes, it's hard not to, and it has nothing to do with the benefits that other segments of the aviation industry enjoy, it's only about theirs.

You can't be a professional airline pilot without hating who you work for in some fashion. After being furloughed twice and soon to be placed behind those hired way after me, I honestly have a hard time understanding where the angst is coming from at UPS. Of course, I have not walked a mile in their shoes so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

Shaggy...
That is a bit harsh. Duksrule has some salient points. We complain about catering, internet, furloughs, etc., but at the same time we're making good coin. There are other airlines out there with furloughs and a host of problems that makes ours look insignificant.
While I wish ups was leaning forward for the economy, the reality is that they have always been very careful moving forward. The reality is that we will probably never have more than 3000 pilots and the upgrade times are going to be 15 yrs +. The good side is that a ups 15 yr fo is making more than a delta capt and can count on job security. Those at the bottom (at any airline) will always be subject to furlough, no matter what is preached at indoc.
