I don't remember anyone taking too many sides, at least here on the gripe and whine forums. Many people thought his email was confusing at the very least and possibly downright stupid. But, so is a lot of stuff coming from Kirby Pkway. I know I have no idea what is going on within the MEC, but I wish I was a fly on the wall. No wait that sounds like a waste of my time.

Quite frankly, I'm nuetral on the issue....I see pros & cons with both.

But, to say you haven't met ONE pilot that supports JG leads me to believe you have interacted with a very limited portion of the FEDEX pilot group.

Hopefully, the true facts of how the vote goes down this week will come out publicly, but it clearly isn't a slam dunk for either side.

I know at least one MEC Rep stated publicly that his email the past week from his block members was 50/50 in support of both tickets....and he had not made his final decision as of Monday.

If SS wins it by a narrow margin, the vote may still motivate him to alter his current negotiation strategy/mgmt style.

Once again, we live in interesting times.

Are you refering to the ones supporting SS?

It is surprising, well maybe not, that the MEC is having a tough time figuring this one out. I guess we will find out soon enough. So now for the "rumor"; I heard from a guy that attended the local council meetings that he heard that a guy who actually attended the open MEC Meeting (must be true then) that the only thing he knew besides the fact that it is now in extra innings is "who nominated who".

So, if true, he said the ANC rep and MEM checkairman rep spoke for JG. The senior MEM and the junior MEM block reps spoke for SS.

The only thing that struck me as funny was that the MEM check pilot types would support JG? That group has never been happy with the 2006 CBA where they mostly think their work conditions and stuff were kind of gutted. JG was part of the committee that did that Contract and I have always heard those type of rumblings of unhappiness from longtime IP friends. Maybe JG has given them a good read on the plans to fix the deal? Who knows...

I did not know it was even possible to attend an election meeting, but I guess they are open to members in good standing. I just hope whatever the decision that they can make it and not come out of there a still be a split group when it is all done.

4A, The meetings are always open to all members in good standing until the the MEC votes to go into closed session (sp?). Then the doors close.

Interesting observation. My experience in the crew room has been that only a very small percentage of our pilots are even interested in this election. That tells me how unengaged the crew force is. In my view, that small percentage is overwhelmingly in support of JG. Most of those guys seem upset that the SS group (that JG was part of) wasn't militant enough with management in this recent contract.

My guess is that we commoners don't know all the facts about what has really been going on behind the closed doors of our "transparent" union.

BB, I think you are correct in saying we don't know what really goes on up at Kirby. Consider this: Is it possible that JG negotiated these deals under the direction of SS. I think so. Should he have balked and quit if he didn't think it was the correct thing to do? Maybe he's not a quitter.

If you remember, SS ran on the premise that negotiations should be quick and not protracted. Remember? Well, since when has any good union contract been negotiated quickly without any contentious issues with somewhat prolonged negotiations?

I'm not saying JG is the best man to lead us for the next term, I'm saying we don't have all the facts and probably never will. The 6-6 split leads me to believe there are things we don't know.

I e-mailed the block 11 rep to voice my opinion and got a response that basically said "thanx for the input, but I am voting for who I think is best for you, but I appreciate the input from LEC members." I guess he thinks he knows what is better for us than we do. Sound familiar? By the way, he hinted that he supports JG.

Carefull Redeye keeps tabs on negative post about the union. Can I count this as another reason we should have Block reps and not LEC Reps.
