...someone just posted that you can't trade down. Is this true, you can't drop or trade down trips at UPS or is this just a temporary thing because of a shortage or something else???

We tried to do reduced lines to keep people from being put on the street and the company rejected it and put people out the door instead. Many pilots signed up for reduced flying and job share and personal leave , UPS decided it was better just to do it the old fashioned way.
There is no provision to "drop" a trip.

The positive side is that UPS is doing well in the market place even during this tough economy. The way I see it, the economy will eventually improve and UPS will be in a great position to dominate the industry and expand and grow. I believe the days are coming, hopefully sooner than later that UPS will hire again and QOL will improve.
Here's the fact as I see it. Since your first post, you've offered nothing but an immature, unrealistic view of the UPS airplane side of the house, all the while discounting the many comments, made mostly by current UPS pilots, telling you that your view is skewed and that you'd be better off looking for a job elsewhere. You continuously ignore those comments, while still professing your love and admiration for Big Brown. I'm frankly starting to wonder if you're not a UPS management guy out for a fun time. Either that or you're just a very slow learner and someone who always knows best. Either way, good luck in your career. I have a feeling that you're going to need it.

Im a UPS guy who would be coming up to my 4 year anniversary in a couple months. Instead I'm unemployed, stuck in Alaska andam having a heck of a time trying to find gainful employment.
As far as money goes, I have never had a full years pay here. My first year probation, my second RDG, my third, FURLOUGH.
I guess its not always Unicorns and Rainbows.

Alfaro - You don't need to apologize, nobody got "angry". A lot of guys, both UPS and FDX, are trying to give you some advice from first-hand experience. Money is fine, but folks are telling you that you can do just as well as FDX, and for a much more enjoyable work life. Believe it.
And believe it or not, after 21 years here at the brown paradise, I would leave in a heartbeat if FDX or Cathay, or Cargolux or possibly a few others would hire me. I am NOT kidding you. I am flying worse schedules here than I was 20 years ago. It gets really, really old. I'm far too old now for them to hire me, but I would gladly take a pay cut not to have to put up with this acrimonious environment the rest of my career.

I posted that. Its because they don't let you. You can trade down if they approve it. In twenty years I have never had one approved, at least not to go below 75 in 28 days.
