IPA is one of the few things we have an advantage on, no thanks to UPS.
How about that UPS employee shipping discount, woohoo.
I'm sure there's another company out there somewhere, that rolls in profit and does not give their own employees any discount whatsoever. How about we trade our free brown suits for free shipping...

Alfaro,
First, many opposing comments contained in your post. "Yes, its nice to work at a job that appreciates your hard work, respects you and provides a comfortable work environment but in the end however..We work for money." "We work for pay (including benefits/retirement)" and "I don't need a big boat, mansion or ocean front property nor do I care for those kind of things." So you don't really care about the work environment as long as you get the cash, but you do say "It would be nice however to live comfortably"
I get what you are trying to say, but your missing the relationship between how your work like affects the quality of your homelife. With or without the money.
However, if money means alot like you say, perhaps a non aviation career as a high priced lawyer or accountant might be more fruitful to realize your dreams. Then could use some of the cash for a fun airplane on the side and perhaps beat our divorce rate and be even wealthier.
You comment on the lifestyle you dream and that "UPS helps you to achieve that kind of life quickly" If you live modestly as you state, then will achieve your dreams at many places beside FedEx or UPS.
Can assure you as a pilot for Uncle Brown, that my friends at Uncle Fred's have the same quality of lifestyle as us. We are two peas in the pod flying international routes and domestic routes same time of day and night.
If we sat back and did hangar flying (Bellyaching and same time bragging) and only rule was 'don't say your company name" we would be indistinguishable to you.
Regarding your last comment.
True, UPS management doesn't sit around and look for ways to "screw its pilot (sic) over" but opposite is true: They take no leadership role to prevent circumstances that cause challenges. UPS relies on management, not leadership and so it does get screwed up far too many times. It's a very profitable business, we just wish management would take it a bit more seriously since a good quality of work life is very possible at UPS.

To me, life's not all about money. Its about time with the family, God, helping others in need etc...When I'm at work however, it's all about the money, I want to make as much money as possible for every hour I'm away from home, the other perks of the job are much less important. If I make more money, it equates to more time at home and an earlier retirement. Maybe it still seems like I'm contracting myself but I'm not much of a writer so I apologize if I'm not adequetly explaining my views.
As of right now, I work at Skywest which is a good company as far as teamwork, respect, friendly atmosphere and so on but I need to work my butt off to pay the mortgage, bills, vacations etc.. with very little money left over for retirement. If I stay here I will no doubt be working 17 days or so a month until I'm 65.
I know that schedules are rough right now at UPS and they have been for quite a while (btw...from what I understand Fed Ex is'nt exactly perfect either) but I do believe that there are brighter days ahead for your company and I hope to join you someday salty, brown uniform and all, and to do my part as well to make UPS a better company and place to work.
and yes, I would take a job at Fed-Ex in a heart beat if I ever get that call.

Hey Salty, thanks for your post, after reading what I wrote I can see how my words portrayed self-contradiction. Let me sum up and clarify what I wrote:

Here is my one peice of advice about the airline industry. Everything you say you want is solved not by which airline hires you, but what your seniority is. If I had a choice of going to Fedex or UPS, all other things being close to equal, I'd go with the one offers you some seniority the soonest.

Or just put all your assets in someone's name and go BK when it happens.
I wonder how many of the 108 were just like you before falling prey to the push for a higher dividend.

No, let's keep b!tching about our uniforms. Better yet, let's b!tch about the fact we have to wear black shoes and belts with our brown uniform.
