  • Laptop/palmtop computers.
  • Audio and video players.
  • Audio and video recorders.
  • FM receivers.
  • Calculators.
  • Electric razors.
  • Compact disc players.
The following electronic devices are not permitted to be operated on aircraft from block-out to block-in:
  • Cellular telephone.
  • CB or amateur radio transceivers.
  • Remote control transmitters.
  • Hand held GPS units.
  • Personal pagers (Brief all jumpseaters that personal pagers must be turned OFF for the duration of the flight).
The FedEx Pilot Access Terminal (PAT) has been EMI tested and may be operated during any phase of operation.
Brief all jumpseaters that operation of personal electronic devices is permitted with the Captain's permission but only in cruise. The Captain must be advised when these devices are in use. Be alert for any abnormal system operation while personal electronic devices are in use. Report any electronic interference on a Flight Safety Report.

PERSONAL PORTABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICES FAR 91.21 , FAR 121.306 and the first of the paragraph I read to prohibit anyone even crew from using the listed devices and then lower section gives only jumseaters the ability to use the devices. Then lower it addresses the ability of crews to use the PAT. IF I was having a check ride and a real FAA inspector was on board I would request them not to be used. Just my opinion and your mileage may vary
But, the FOM only strictly prohibts radio signal transmitting devices in the sentence before it addresses what jumpseaters can operate above 10,000 feet. So, I believe that is what the other guys are looking at. I've never considered a calculator to be a radio transmitter.
