Default FDX New Hire Domicile

I've searched and searched but cannot find the answer......can a new hire be assigned HKG or PAR(not sure if it really exists)? I'm under the impression from what i've read that those domiciles outside the US are voluntary. Thanks

You can be offered an FDA slot, but not assigned to one. It is possible that they could offer you the job contingent on you going to HKG, but it has not happened so far. They did do that with ANC MD11 slots, i.e. take this class date and go to ANC (the infamous Purple Nugget program,) or wait for a MEM slot at a later date.

BTW - HKG is our only FDA right now. CGN or Cologne/Bonn, Germany is supposedly going to open up this fall. Nothing in Paris (CDG) as of now.

Come on, dude, get with it! It's not a city, it's a region.

EMEA!

If it's the "ME", they're going to issue Purple Burkhas. For those of you who haven't had enough of the desert and all the fun things to do there...

FDAs are voluntary.

At least two of the recent new-hires (internals) are on their way to HKG in the right seat of the Bus. I believe they were offered HKG during indoc and took it - they were NOT hired contingent on them going to HKG.

If you want to go to HKG you probably will be able to, even if you are hired a year from now. If you want to go to CGN (or whatever city ends up being the EMEA base) get in line. Even though it's going to be a 757 base it will go senior.

Dunno about that. Paris FO was 3 seats empty when the final bid closed.

Not sure the extra 800 a month and minor tuititon assistance would push any more people into Cologne (which I've heard called The Detroit of Germany)

Don't forget, you can't homeschool in Germany.

Agree. Narrowbody pay and a downward spiraling dollar make CGN a difficult choice. Where is the incentive to go to Europe so that the company can be more efficient (ie. make more money)? A paycut so that the company can continue to to fatten its yield just does not make sense.

Apparently 68% disagree.

It's illegal in Hong Kong too (for Expats). Though that hasn't stopped a few people...

Last I looked, no one is forcing guys to go overseas, and so if some choose to go, it's probably because they see something there that's of interest to them, and it's probably not because they are truly interested in the company becoming more efficient, at their expense.

That's absolutely true. And when the next TA rolls around, we will spend any negotiating capital necessary to make their foreign adventures better, while we postpone any substantive rewrite of the vague language that has plagued us for years until the subsequent TA.

Past performance is most definitely an indicator of future performance around here!
