Totally agree.

I am not on property, so don't have the ready room chatter, but there has been nothing about NAA and Atlas on the boards.

I kinda thought they would be going after 767 freighters but if they wanted pax planes, either 300ER's or 400's would be the ones.

NAA only has 5 767's and I've heard Atlas wants up to twenty-something airframes for the move to make sense. Maybe they will start with the NAA planes. I was hoping they would get a bunch of DHL's 76-300F's.

Merger/purchase? Probably not.

The lead rumor is two pax 767's to do AMC flying by the end of the third quarter.

Atlas Air Worldwide Announces Expansion Into Military Passenger Charter Service - Yahoo! Finance

Press Release Source: Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. On Friday April 29, 2011, 12:59 pm EDT

PURCHASE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. (AAWW) (Nasdaq:AAWW - News), a leading global provider of air cargo assets and outsourced aviation operating services and solutions, today announced that its Atlas Air, Inc. unit has been approved by the U.S. Department of Defense to begin providing passenger charter service for U.S. military personnel, complementing the company’s long-time position as a premier supplier of military cargo charter solutions. The new service is expected to start in May.

Atlas Air will begin operating the passenger charter service for the Defense Department’s Air Mobility Command (AMC) using a Boeing 747-400 passenger aircraft acquired under an operating lease.

“AMC passenger service is an exciting expansion of our business,” said William J. Flynn, President and Chief Executive Officer of Atlas Air Worldwide. “Our entry into passenger service for the U.S. military leverages the experience of our long-standing service in AMC cargo operations, our knowledge of the areas of activity and our success in providing premium, private-charter, passenger CMI operations for SonAir. These created a low-risk, low-cost entry opportunity for us.”

Mr. Flynn added, “We expect modest levels of military-passenger flying in 2011, which will increase in 2012. We anticipate a moderate earnings impact this year considering the hours of activity and the start-up costs we have incurred since January. Each hour we fly is an hour of growth for us and is part of our strategy to mitigate any reduction in AMC cargo demand.

“As a large percentage of flying is entitlement driven, we will size our fleet and operations to meet anticipated demand. Since approximately 95% of U.S. troops move via commercial air carriers, there should be a good level of sustained passenger demand. We foresee meaningful earnings growth from AMC passenger operations in 2012 and beyond.”

I realize we only have 5 767's, but we do have an established ETOPS already in place, that's what made it seem plausible.

Following is a video that should be mandatory viewing for any aspiring Atlas Air pilot. It contains important historical information about the airline in an easy to understand format. Produced in 2007 it is still accurate and valid and a worthwhile informational piece.

Ah, except we don't fly for BA or Air New Zealand anymore. But add QANTAS, DHL, Panalpina and TNT. And Sonair.

What is up with all the Toledo flying? It's been going on for years under Emirates Sky Cargo and Qantas in the -400 but over the past year more and more -200's have been coming into and out of TOL as well (every other day it seems). Now there is a rumor the -800's will be frequent visitors.

Are we in for a mini-hub/base in the near future?

Also, I may have missed it discussed before, but what is the 767 deal with Titan plastered on the side on their website?

I don't know if EK and QF have tie ins with BAX or just use TOL as a catch basin for Ohio, Mich and IN. It seems to average about a flight a week for each.

I don't know who's getting the -8, if it's EK or QF you'll probably see it in TOL.
