Huhh????????
You mean you don't think most of us Jumpseat to/from our homes to MEM or LAX or ANC to start our trips. Yeah sure we would all like to have a DH ticket to the 1st revenue city but there aren't that many.
I take a Limo to from the Airport when I can that is $100 RT. I also have to Spend $ 70 a month if I want a parking pass. We never had to pay taxes on this stuff before...........now we will.

I have an idea, don't get a $100 limo! Drive your lazy @ss.
The company didn't write the IRS laws. Quit whining.

On second thought, PLEASE don't call and ask. We are all going to end up getting audited over this if people make enough noise. I'm sure someone will call the IRS this week and when they don't like the answer, they will state we've never done it that way before. Boom! Up go the red flags and out come the letters.
Kind of like telling a FAA inspector that we don't wear O2 masks at FedEx Express.

So here's a scenario that happened last month:
EWR standby, get called to do a trip to MEM at midnight. Get to MEM in the middle of the rush, get to the AOC and they send us to a hotel. The next day they DH us back to EWR.
So with this TA, this DH back to EWR is considered income and I have to pay taxes on it? WTF is that.

No, as that is a scheduled DH. We are talking about using Dev Bank to get from your home to your base (MEM, ANC, LAX, or SFS) to start work. That is not a company paid expense by IRS rules. Read the ALPA message line. Our contract can't violate IRS regs! And as mentioned, if you go *****in to the IRS, be ready to cough up for all the years you have done this.

Often I do drive to the FedEx ramp, but I must pay parking. The FDX ramp has limited space even if you buy the employee pass. Often I must park in the Commerical Airport lot and that is $10-19 day. Then I am forced to take a Cab between the Terminal and the FedEx ramp........sometimes the Limo is cheaper.
Often I use Mid-trip DH money for a deviation bank. I often come in 1 day berfore a trip or stay a day after a trip to do Union Volunteer work.
Yes you could say this is part of commuting, but over 70% of us commute.
Excuse me for not being a CPA tax expert. This has the potential for Adding $1000 to 3000 per year additional taxable income to our commuters and they should be aware of it.
So I am sorry if your Fed UP

Ummm ... I'm not exactly sure that is correct (we should all go to the roadshows and get clarification on this and other issues). I believe deviating back and forth to your home and your base is the issue. In other words ... if you are buying a ticket to MEM in order to start (or end your trip with a tcket MEM-XXX) your trip. I don't think buying a $5500 ticket HKG-ORD (assuming ORD is your home) is the issue we are addressing here as taxable income.
