U.S. urges citizens within 80 km of Japan plant leave
CAIRO | Wed Mar 16, 2011 1:50pm EDT
(Reuters) - The United States on Wednesday recommended its citizens living within 80 km (50 miles) of the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan evacuate the area or take shelter indoors.
The U.S. Embassy in Tokyo issued the advice in a statement distributed to reporters accompanying Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on a trip to Egypt.
"We are recommending, as a precaution, that American citizens who live within 50 miles of the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant evacuate the area or to take shelter indoors if safe evacuation is not practical," it said.

On Google Maps it looks like about 150 miles from Fukushima to Naritaville.....

Not sure I would like a trip to NRT now. US Govt. moving dependents out if they want to go. I wonder what a good wind would do to the NRT area's radiation level? Can you drop/refuse a trip on Reserve? Maybe these are some questions we should start asking of our Union/Company.

I am an ABX pilot that just returned from NRT. I was there for 3 weeks. Personally I wouldn't go back right now. Our situation is a little different since we're basically living there. Take a look at what direction the wind is blowing before going over. A personal dosimeter night be a good option!

Had a 36 Hr layover 15-16 at the NRT Hilton. No freight inbound on our flight from CAN. 150K outbound to PANC. Several aftershocks had the hotel swaying for several minutes but there is no noticeable damage anywhere in the NRT area. Went downtown for dinner at the Bohn. Very few Flight crew wandering the streets at 7PM but all our favorite haunts are open. Did have a 2 1/2 hour power outage the evening of the 16th, but the scheduled outage on the 15th never happened. Pretty much everything is normal on the surface around NRT but you can sense the Japanese people were in a state of shock.

Got to Narita yesterday morning. FDX manager on duty at Hilton briefed us on latest reactor news and game plan to evac crews if needed.
Planned power outages for 3-4hours each day. Couple of tremmors.
Jetlag still has some beer left.
