Default UPS 744 Domicile

...taking a break from studying to re-take the FEX...and had a question.

Are all the 744s going to be an ANC domicile? If so, it looks like all newbies will head to the great white north (I sincerely hope I'm one... ), yes?

With the new contract, is there still the $1500/mo kicker for ANC for probies?

Thanks UPS gurus...

That's airline terminology for the Boeing 747-400.

As of this moment, yes.

The probie ANC bonus money was part of a LOA that will still apply to the new deal.

I knew you were getting 747-400s but had never seen anyone break it down like that. Thanks

Yup, all the 744s will be in the ANC domicile. Which is cool for the junior pilots at UPS who want to fly that plane. If not new hires, certainly 2 and 3 year seniority pilots at UPS will be able to fly the bird. But can you put up with a long commute? That'll be the question.

Yes, the $1500 stands. It is a Letter of Agreement, so it's in place regardless of the T/A outcome. Here is the pertinent part

"New Hire Crewmembers: In return for a three (3) year voluntary commitment to remain in the Anchorage domicile and to forgo any transition bid opportunities, the Company will provide the following to crewmembers hired directly into a position in Anchorage.

a. A $1,500 pay period stipend beginning with the start of IOE and ending at the completion of the probationary period."

Which means a new hire coming straight into ANC will be paid guarantee of $52,000 that first year.

I appreciate all the quick replies. As I'm sure you've guessed, I'm not a UPS pilot now, but I'm aspiring to be one...just waiting for the opportunity not to f-up an interview.

As far as the commute, if I get some brown love, I don't know if I have a choice at first, but who knows, I may like the Pac Rim stuff. It'd be a nice change from the NE corridor for a spell.

All they have to do to turn this fact-finding mission into any stress in my life is to call me, like me and give me a class date.

Thanks ya'll....

You might want to factor in the juniority of the ANC base. The first 50 ANC MD-11 capts. got down to 1960 seniority number out of 2750. ANC is suppose to grow to 300+ crews over the next few years. How low will the 300th ANC capt. be? Who knows, but it will probably be someone with only only a couple of years at UPS. If I were a Alaska Airline F/O based and living in ANC, I would beating down UPS door. What airline opportunity is out there, that would let you jump years in normal seniority to make capt, let alone the highest pay in the industry.

the 747-400 will all be based in anc, you only get the 1500.00 if you move to anc, and live in domicile. The md-11 captain bid went to 1957 originally but moved back into the 1800's in the subsequent displacement. I believe the anc fo's will all be newhires from now on.

Is there much chance any of the A380s will be based somewhere other than ANC?
