the good thing is there are not many (if any) commercial certificate pilots logging long haul heavy jet Pt. 121 time AND need it to get to the FAR min flight hours for an ATP. thus not many will ever have to worry about this time and its affect on flight time towards an ATP

If there is such a person i would like to meet them and their parent that owns an airline

all mine is logged as IRO, under the SIC column.... Technically it IS PIC, otherwise the flight is illegal to operate, however airlines idea of what is PIC is not the same as the FAA.

Exactly, really only good for military pilots, just like the XC rule for the ATP is different to accommodate fighter pilots.

EDIT: Also good for people who might be coming from an airline like CX, where you start off as a SO unless you're lucky enough to get a DEFO/DECA slot, which they aren't doing currently.

Good grief. People get so wrapped around the axle when it comes to logging time. If I took the advice of all the flight hour gurus on here I'd have about 5 logable hours.

Fair enough.

How do you log time when you fly with three pilot crews on the C-17? More specifically, do you log time out of the cockpit spent eating a meal or sleeping in a crew bunk as multi-engine or total time?

A 9 hour flight = 3 hours First Pilot Time, 3 hours Copilot Time, 3 hours Special Crew Time.

I have logged all of my Aircraft Commander time as PIC (even the time when I was sleeping in the back), but can't bring myself to include my Special Crew Time into Total and Multi-Engine columns....should I? My squadron required three pilots when flying more than 6 hours, so I was a required crew member.
Yes, military reg's and faa...very different! When I flew P-3's, the PPC's (the ones who were already airline pilots) would give the "A" time to whoever was getting out and needed the time for their logbooks!
