PS It would serve the company right to "give" away a bunch of 747-400 types just prior to crewmembers retiring.[/QUOTE]
#44 furloughed, 77 total hours on a 74-4 type rating. Now thats logistics.

Jetjok...
You don't understand how it is at ups. Training at ups is free...there is no cost associated with the numerous downgrades and aircraft changes. At least that is what they told us when we tried to have them take the cost of training into account due to the furlough.

That's just a management type lying to get you to stop talking about it and move along.
Of course it costs money. Probably not as much as we think if the instructors and sims are already on the payroll/bought and would otherwise sit idle, but not free. It was costed it out and someone determined the payback time period covered the costs. That's a known known. Depending on the economy this year it could be very profitable. That's a known known.
But I don't think they put a value on how it would affect pilot costs in a hiring climate over a year from now. I predict some newhires will leave after 1-12 months at UPS when Delta, SWA or FedEx calls. To UPS, that's an unknown unknown. The lesson of the 99-00 hiring cycle has been lost.

We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don't know we don't know."

Don't really care why guys are retiring. I just would like to see some hard #'s proving guys are in fact really retiring early. Otherwise Sweedish Blender's post is just another baseless rumor.

I have had a couple of Captains in the last 3 months go through training on the 400 that stated "My retirement paperwork is in!!". They were 62-64. I am not sure of the retirements beyond the mandatory ones listed on the seniority list. But there are a few more on the 400 retiring, than those turning 65. No clue about the other fleets.

I flew with a few 744 Capts that were talking about going early but then again back a few years ago I flew with a newly minted, just back from the panel Capt that said...if only his shares of BAC doubled from his purchase of about $4/share, maybe he would retire. He bought a few hundred thousand shares. He is the same Capt that owns 40ish properties outside of Louisville. Other than developing properties he owns a few airplanes, a helicopter and a bunch of acres of land. Good for him for doing well for himself, if only though he could just get a few more ducks in a row... then he could retire. In ground school I witnessed the vending machine short him coffee in SDF. He wrote the vendor a letter for his 35 cents. He's still here, not quite 65.
I wouldn't hold your breath on a mass exedos.

Yeah, there was supposed to be a mass exodus of FEs after the last contract was signed.....never happened. I think the only way you are ever going to havethat around here is if the co. actually offered you more than what you would make working and that's never going to happen.

When you post something tongue-in-cheek (TIC), be sure to use about 50 emoticons so we don't have to read numerous posts from people arguing with you, when they actually agree with you? OK?
