FedEx Retirement Data

Getting rid of the A Fund is a no-starter for closing this contract and I think the company knows it. However, they know we would sell our souls to keep it......like allow an increase in the retirement age to 65 with all the penalties for retiring early.....as a trade-off! I've often heard people say our vacation system is a hands off benefit for negotiations. I like it too! Everything is on the table if the company and union decide to talk about it. In the end, contract gains in one area are often offset by a loss in another area. Ask all those block 11 fellows about the last contract and what it meant for them.

The one change that you Will probably see with the next contract is a raise in the max retirement cap, currently 260K. By raising the cap to say 300K, there is a bunch of pilots who previously thought that they had made their high five, that find out that they need 5 more years of high five in order to max out their retirement. Instant extra manning, and less payout of retirement to a bunch of guys who have worked themselves to death for their high five, twice.

What is this nonsense about giving up anything? This company made money in all but one quarter during the worst economic conditions since the 1920's. That one quarter loss was due to some write-offs. We just posted a quarter billion dollar profit two days ago. 30% pay raise across the board and a 15% B fund is what I say.

The previous guys didn't want to improve anything for the bottom 60-70%. Doing so would have (in their minds) risked pay raises and improvements for the best of the MD-11 bidpack and the coming 777.

Look at CEO pensions and you will likely find pensions much higher than a 260K basis, the company just has a higher tax burden when paying that.
This is how it was explained to me a number of years ago, so I could be in left field too.
