Default FDX - Sick Call Window?

It's rumored that if you call in sick within so many hours of the show time for a trip, that you get noted by the duty officer and forwarded to mgmt for review. Does anyone know what that window is? I thought I saw it mentioned in an email or FCIF some years ago but don't remember what it said.

If you are sick, for any reason, at any time, call in sick. That is what your RSA/DSA is for, and other crewmembers do not want you sitting next to them for the duration of a trip sneeezing and hacking up a lung. If you get ANY blowback from Mgmt. on ANY use of sick time call ALPA Contract Enforcement and get them involved immediately. If necessary insist that the FAA be informed and involved in the situation. If WE as a crewforce do not stop this kind of intimidation (and it does happen, especially going in to peak) then it will continue and escalate. There is at least one "Psuedo" manager who is tasked with finding instances to go after crewmembers on a variety of issues, sick use being one of them. We have the hammer on this, don't be afraid to use it.

Don't know--don't care. Had to call in sick once after landing in MEM for an a.m. hub-turn (about 2 hours prior to show). Gave a courtesy call to scheduling as I clicked in sick. Never heard anything more about it. Don't fly sick, folks. Repeat after me: "I am not physically capable of flying this trip at this time."

On a related note, I would be heartily in favor of a contract modification to the term "sick hours/sick bank" to "personal hours/personal bank." Anybody out there have any other employment contract experience besides FDX that addresses personal leave etc. apart from vacation?

I've posted this about a hundred times, but I was reprimanded by my ACP for calling in sick when my wife was in labor.

I would definitely like personal days. I consider it the humane way to treat people.

Thumbs down

I think its 4 hrs prior to show. Then you may get called or an irregularity report in VIPS to answer.

The issue for me once again (earlier posts similar subjects) is the remark on your Pilot Report Card. So, you could be near dead sick and someone in mgmt (ACP, DO etc) could write a negative one sided comment on your sick call. You will not be told (by them) and can not see this comment to defend yourself or dispute it.

The report card MUST go away in the next contract, as it has at other carriers. Please let you rep know that Double Secret probation might work with Dean Wormer but, it doesn't work at FDX.

You have the right (and ability) to see all listed on your "Company Record". You just have to go in and ask to see it. You may get attitude......but you will be allowed to review your employee record. I recommend all do this........so if you see something incorrect you can file a "not so fast" rebuttal.

And you are under supervision as you peruse your folder/file!

NO NO NO you dont! And thats my point. You can see a manilla folder your record as per contract. BUT you can NOT see the report card. It is a mgmt only computer file with your picture. Once again it contains anything they want: late, sick, deviation, irregularity , fatigue, DO comments ACP remarks. None of which you can dispute/ clarify etc.
