I can tell you from personal experience that if you call sick during a holiday there is a window when ALL sick calls result in an email to your ACP.
The FAA is clear in its regulations regarding pilots who are ill- you are NOT to fly, and they come down hard on organizations who penalize pilots for calling sick. That being said, I know an MD-11 FO who has been hounded by the company for calling sick about 7-10 times per year for the past few years. His calls were legitimate, but he used our union to put a stop to their efforts against him. They still come after him at the drop of a hat however~

if you are sick, call in sick regardless of the number of times you have done it before.
Ask your company in writing if they want you to do anything different. Do the same for fatigued.
It will be much easier then having your union try and fight for your job because of a mistake do to illness or fatigue.
this is not aimed at anyone posting previously. just a rant.

I don't know. I called in sick for a whole month of R days and heard nothing. BTW, don't do that, it wipes out the value of the entire RLG for the month. I've also known guys who have used their entire sick bank for the year for multiple years in a row and haven't heard a peep. I called in sick within four hours of show once, emailed my ACP with an explanation and heard nothing back. Lots of urban myths out there regarding sick bank usage, but if it's not in the contract....my personal opinion is that my 72 hours of sick is mine. The company can go jump in a lake.
