Default UPS Furlough Suspended through 1/30/11?

Great News!!**

Although, they havent told us it appears UPS is extending the furlough suspension until the end of Jan. Thats AWESOME! No doubt they are doing this because they want as many families as this economic downturn will allow to have a good holiday. Please pick up open time to help the senior managers have a stress free holiday too. This news warms my heart. I heart logistics too!

**-this post is 100% sarcasm, an Uncaring Pathetic Sadistic group of people run this company

Time to ratchet up the pressure. Make peak a nightmare for them. Afterall, it's the UPS corporate policy not to grow the business (other than SCS) and/or compete for market share, but to shrink expenses. In other words Davis and his ilk believe they make enough money and that the dividends are sufficient. So, let's follow their lead both in spirit and deed and keep revenue depressed just as they do.

I encourage everyone to enjoy every minute off and maximize that quality time.

why can I not help but think that this is a stunt to get through peak and catch up on training?

UPS is allowed to use a considerable number of contractors during peak (even with a furlough). As far as I know there is no back log of training issues in ANC. SDF may be a different story (but from the people I talk to there are no delays in SDF either).

I always hope for the best (planning for the worst has been very difficult with these circumstances, furloughs suspended 36 hours before being unemployed!!) Now it is till the end of January 2011. Will this be the end? I don't know. Too much venom on the B&G to say otherwise.

If you look at the facts. Retirements (those going at the mandatory 65, not including anyone 60-64) start to pick up January 2011. There are between 50-60 per year for the next few years. We are receiving a new 767 every other month for about the next 4 years. New rest rules will require some additional staffing on the domestic side, but little more on the international side. At least for now.......

Will the furloughs continue? I have no idea. Neither does anyone else for that matter. Only the company knows. Right now they have most of the cards. The only thing we can control is, show to work on time, do your job safely, then go home.

I actually agree with Sideshow. By pressuring the system, hopefully the furlough will put such a bad taste in their mouth that:

1. They think twice about pulling this accounting stunt again.
2. The operations people and the Casey Clan members purge the Ivory Towers of the corporate raiders.

Food for thought...

I'm genuinely curious to see how many in the furlough's bullseye take PLOA (leaves of absence) to secure employment elsewhere. In addition, I may be wrong but I would make a guess that FedEx will see résumés from UPS pilots when the window opens. Whether they hire brown pilots remains to be seen, but has UPS forecast that even a suspension of the furlough may not yield the number of available bodies and will not change the OT/JA ban.

I think I see a light at the end of the tunnel for this accounting excercise and it says "Santa Fe" on the side of it.

Also, know the contract. Scheduling is getting better at fooling some us.
