Random Thoughts From The Trembling Hills Home for Paranoid Airline Pilots:
Just prior to contract negotiations, the company announces a whole new fleet of 777's is on the way. It is a solid, done deal. That way we negotiate a better 777 pay rate, giving up something else in the process.
Before the ink is dry on the new contract, FedEx cancels the 777 conversions and places an order for 50 or so A340's which, of course, we can fly for normal widebody rates after we lose our arbitration.
Naw, something like that would never happen.

"Finnair currently operates seven MD-11 type aircraft, for which the leasing agreements will end in such a way that each departing aircraft is replaced with a new Airbus. The first MD-11 will retire from the Finnair fleet already at the end of next year. Next year Finnair's long-haul Airbus fleet will grow by two Airbus A340-300E aircraft to five and the first A330 aircraft will arrive in spring 2009."
I read it on the internet so it must be true.

From my understanding, the 777-200 hauls less than the -11. One of the reasons FedEx doesn't want a 777 rate is because they envision replacing the domestic MD fleet with the light weight 777. They don't want to pay our -380 pay scale to guys flying between MEM and DFW when they are hauling less freight that the current MD crews. This is also why they want us to go for the ULR override.

Finnair operated their last scheduled MD-11 passenger flight DEL-HEL on 22 Feb 2010. They must be in the desert somewhere already. Think they still operate 2 or 3 MD-11F's.

They took one converted freighter back because Aeroflot Air Cargo couldn't take delivery of it. Aeroflot is flying two ex-Finnair birds which have Finnish registrations, and are maintained by Finnair mechanics. We see them all the time in HHN. WOA has two of their birds 269, and 270, and I think there is still one in SIN awaiting conversion, but I am not sure.

I am happy to see rumors of aircraft acquisitions. My crystal ball tells me that the company wants to get rid of the 11 fleet but that won't happen until we get more triple 7s. And....I don't think we will see very many conversions until the 787 comes online and carriers get shiny new jets.
At any rate, the way I read it is more airplanes = good.
FWIW I heard that ANC is going to an all 330 base. I heard that from a pilot so it must be true.
Cheers,
Beertini
