I think WAS is the key word. Unfortunately, I think those days for mainline legacies are over. I am not saying I agree, I am just saying that I think those days are gone.

One has nothing to do with the other. I would express sincere condolances whether the crew was all-mgt, all-IPA, or a combination. You can certainly refrain from reading until after memorial services, if you so choose.

Well, if they can't get people to fly for them cheap they can't sell the ticket for 50, which by the way show me where I can get that ticket on an airline I would actually ride on. We did , thats why you came to work for UPS. Our compensation was not a gift from management.

When Pan Am started the first transcontinental jet service in 1958, a round trip coach ticket cost $800. That's $6035 in today's dollars.
I just found a JFK - LAX round trip ticket on the Internet for $309. Is it any wonder that pax airline profits and pax airline pilot wages are in full retreat?

First of all, the passport wasn't "lost" it was stolen. The crew member was on company time. The company should have done everything it could to assist their crew member (employee) to get a replacement passport. It is obvious that you have never been in a country where communication is difficult, if not impossible, and had something go awry. What may seem a simple thing becomes a monumental task, particularly in a country like China.
This is not about irresponsibility on the part of a crew member - it is about gross irresponsibility and neglect on the part of the employer.
God forbid this was a critical health issue or some other type of emergency.
The lack of assistance on the part of management at UPS is deplorable.
It will not be forgotten, either.

Are you serious... was it YOURS? There are always two sides to a story and its nice to know you have listened to one... This Crew Member was assisted very well, to the point that a lot of man hours, over three shifts for several days were spent helping him on both sides of the pond... I take this as an insult that the "Company" was irresponsible. Irresponsibility is a two way street, not one way! I've also assisted in a critical health issues as well as emergancies everyday. If we are so deplorable then why would we stop a flight to pull a crew member off to inform him of a death. Before you spew your assumptions, think... you havent a clue...!!!!!!!

I have always been a proponent of having schedulers/dispatchers ride on our flights and line pilots sit an hour or so during busy times in System Ops.
Again, I may take a few dings for this, and that's ok. However, I would like to hear both sides.

I know the Crew Member- 14 year employee, Int'l Capt. (now FO), sharp guy. I know the story, well. He deserved MUCH better. P.S. Good timing. What a Reu$che...
