Default FAA Reauthorization = Commuting Rules?

Well, they are trying. We'll see how it plays out. It passed the House yesterday and Senate today and POTUS will sign it into law very soon. This article is from yesterday but explained it better than most of the stories today.

New pilot requirements likely to pass House today | AIRLINE BIZ Blog | dallasnews.com

Looks like new rest rules might be coming?

Watch this one closely.

The bill requires the FAA to look into... and issue NPRM on flight and duty time requirements. They have to issue the NPRM 6 months after enactment with a final rule 1 year from enactment. The NPRM duty time and rest rules must include a laundry list of items one of which is to consider the effect of commuting. Additionally, the bill requires the National Academy of Sciences conduct a study on the effects (if any) on pilot fatigue from commuting.
