First 90 to back seat 727 and the next 60 to right seat 757.

Wouldn't this create passover pay issues?

No problem ALPA will just agree to a virtual training letter for new hires in exchange for hotel rooms. The new hire's passover pay will start when the virtual training schedule of 2 per annum kicks in in 2012.

One class in January, February, March, and April. That should be a total of 25 new guys...approximately. Good news!

Did hear from the instructors from the big meeting last week....

PC said something in the first meeting about hiring 150 in 2011. First 90 to back seat 727 and the next 60 to right seat 757.

Basic indoc is being rewritten to be about 14 days long. 10 days of FOM. They are preparing to hire right into the right seat. J Gorman apparently said that BI will include hotels for the new hires, they will try to get their family involved in the process and introduce the families to FedEx too.

Sounds like some big changes. Glad there will finally be some movement.

Does FEDEX require the FE Written to apply???

Questions

Q: Must I have successfully completed my Flight Engineer written exam in order to work for FedEx?

A: If you do not already posses a Flight Engineer Turbojet certificate, you must have a valid and current Flight Engineer written exam prior to starting training as a FedEx crewmember. You may have either the combined exam (FEX) or the separate Basic Turbojet exam (FEB FEJ).

Q: I took the Flight Engineer written exam over two years ago and it has now expired. What must I do before starting work at FedEx?
A: You must have current test results prior to starting training at FedEx.

Q: Is the Pilot Application Form that I filled out in June of 1998 still valid?
A: No, all who are interested in a pilot position at FedEx must fill out a new Profile Form, plus submit the 50 fee.

Passover pay issue...yes.

Right now, only the last 20 or so on the list don't have window seats. The first 90 would end up with passover pay probably.

However, is it cheaper to pay passover pay or train all the new hires in the back seat, then turn right around and train them in the right seat? I am no bean counter but I would say passover is cheaper in monetary terms and productivity terms.

Throw into the mix that the 727 flying will be drastically reduced starting January 1. That's the plan today I think. Seems to make sense to hire into the right seat. It will have to happen eventually anyway. 3 years, 4 years, who knows? But, eventually...

72 flying isn't going down drastically in the near future. We just pulled three of them out of the desert, we are sending 75s to Europe, and the retire date is pushed off to 2015...

They will not put newhires into right seat 75 for at least a year or two, until the back seat is essentially flushed out. They are looking at passover issue and want to put that possibility off as long as possible...so, newhires, you'll be plumbing.

Heard an ACP say in ops that the company wants to re-interview the poolies as well. The ACP said they think that is a little silly and will probably just do some sort of re-acquaintance visit with a new background check.

In other words, NOBODY knows! One thing is for certain, they know they will be hiring starting in 90 days. Internals first in January, February, March, and April...then poolies starting in May?
