Age 65 guys to the back seat?
Of the top 800 pilots on our list, only 2 will reach age 65 the rest of this year. And, only about 18 in 2011.
I don't think age 65 guys going back to sit sideways on the slaveship, will be much of a factor.

Just wondering, how do you know when each of the top 800 will turn 65?

Are you saying there aren't any guys turning 65 in the next 6 to 7 months? Actually, I would think the guys turning 65 that aren't in the top 800 would be the ones to go to the back seat, because that means they haven't been at FDX as long and they are trying to get a better retirement. Of course we have/had guys that have been at the company for 25 or 30 years and still go to the back.

To answer my own question, just looked it up in the ALPA calendar. According to it, only 4 more pilots turn 65 by the end of the year.
Sorry, 6. Forgot to look lower on the page for the non members.
But maybe it should be a since it's a non member retiring.

But, not all of them are going to go back to the 727. Some are already there. Most will retire.

One more thing to consider...
As far as hiring goes...
The company may want to hire a few folks so they don't have to rely on draft to make it through contract negotiations.
They already have people in the pool so they could show up quickly. Then of course we would have to start up the interviews, pre-interviews, pre-pre-interviews.

At least we don't have to worry about them trying to take advantage of the final excess in the 727 to sit at home with pay.
We should have bought the 757 sooner by accepting Boeing's offer to keep the line open. Can you imagine the savings from retiring the DC10 and 727 at the same time?
