I guess my point was that the company knows how much it costs to train a pilot for a different seat. I have no idea at all if they consider, like you want them to, the compounded cost of such training. However, I believe that if it didn't make sense financially to train the guy, that the company would simply pay passover pay and leave him in his original seat, and be done with it. I think I understand your comments, but I'm saying that they might have nothing to do with the reality of the situation. That's what I meant by my last sentence on my previous post.

So let me get this right. You guys are complaining that guys who are senior to you are taking a lot of time off, thereby allowing more junior guys to fly those great trips. Is it that, or is it the fact that you feel soooooo bad about the company losing productivity, because they're training guys who are close to retirement. Such patriots. I'm sure the company would be glad to know that you're in their corner.

Remember JJ, these guys have taken a little bit of a beating for the last couple of years. We have signs of a little positive movement for a change and we're all trying to make the best decisions right now for ourselves and our family. This place has literally become musical chairs.....this could be the beginning of great movement, or could be the last bid until age 65 starts rolling guys off the list.
Bid what you want to fly is really a misnomer, because it is hard to make that decision in a vacuum of possible outcomes.
JJ, I like you, and you often have pretty salient input, but in this case, I think you are being overly critical of guys who are genuinely trying to sort out an issue that has become largely academic to you.
regards,
Jakal

On a side note, there are a number of these *ahem* more experienced gentlemen who are rumored to be planning on retiring under this contract, but are bidding trip7 for the type......then planning to work abroad via contract work......kind of a shrewd move at first glance.

After-all, they did have an excess bid for the sole purpose of allowing the sextagenerians to get back to a window seat and not have to bid HKG.
Also, aren't you and your buddy Fox always making the point that those reaching retirement age are not necessarily senior having come to FDX late?
