AA,

It must be sooooooo frustrating for you. Telling people how they should live or feel, and them not listening to you. What a shame. Maybe they want to be in control of their lives, rather than having you tell them what is and what isn't good for them.

Of course, seniority has no real correlation with age. I'm not sure about Speedy's years of service, but I flew with the guy a couple numbers below him, and he is bowing out in December with 25 years service at age 68. A couple of the guys just below him have only recently turned 65.

It's not that they need the money, it's that, from what I've come to understand, they want to continue to feel alive and productive. I know you just can't understand that, but I guess over time you might.

The A plan will never, ever go away. Guys that want to pass away with a memory of their FDX hub turn the night before subsidize those who want to have a traditional retirement. The subsidy is huge. One can go on time and collect several hundred thousand dollars, on average, or get nothing if you fly till you die.

We should all give Speedy a pat on the back and something for his financial contribution to our corporation. Forget management bonuses for meeting "objectives" that don't quite save what they purport to. They usually just shift expenses to another cost center. Don't even get me started on that. Our late 757 buy is a prime example. We are now paying dearly for airplanes with more cycles and hours than our 727 fleet.

Bonuses should instead be going to those over 70. They're worth their weight in gold. Unlike some who currently get bonuses and think everything they do is art, these guys have actually earned an extra financial reward.

Lets give credit where credit is due.
