Default FDX - 75's timeline for taking 72's routes?

Does anyone know if there is a formal or informal plan for the transition of routes from the 72's over to the 75's? Seems like it would be in the best interest of the company (read this as training cycles) as well as the pilots for management to communicate the future plan and time line for market and equipment pairings. Seems like the ramp agents get a heads up on this stuff long before the folks operating the equipment......any reason for the secrecy?

Thoughts......?

Possibly they're having a hard time finding 75s worth converting to convert?
There was news in the press that with the 787/A350 delays and the "rumors" of a clean sheet 737 replacement afloat that operators were holding onto the "good" airframes a little longer than forecast.

Just a thought.
They may know which routes (ground handling prep) but not when those aircraft will be available from the conversion hanger.

Last numbers I saw only showed 20 757's with another 7 in conversion, so it's going to take a while to replace the 70+ 727's.

Currently flying 22 75s, with conversions coming faster than one per month. I'd heard that five dozen or so total had been bought or optioned by last fall. Efforts are being made to increase the number of conversion lines to accelerate the process.

Not all of them are being used to replace 72s directly as they fall in between those and the A310s, capacity-wise.

We just got 914FE back from the paint shop and on the Ops Spec Fri, 11 Jun. That makes 23 in the fleet, with 8 more due to be finished by the end of the CY and 19 in CY2011. This is based on the "Conversion Master Schedule" as revised on 061010.

The Company prefers to do its business in private. Communicating to its pilots equates to posting its business plans on this forum. Sad but true. I for one would prefer more openness with its pilots and shooting of traitors. That'll never fly...

How many full positions on the top deck does the conversion give FDX?

Best way to find out is to call Frankfurt and ask Manfred.

As of Feb 2010 the plan to draw down the 727 was:

Feb 2010 Fleet size = 75 US Domestic / 5 Canada

Dec 2010 = 68 / 5

Dec 2011 = 47 / 4

Dec 2012 = 36 / 3

Dec 2013 = 17 / 3

Dec 2014 = 8 / 0

Dec 2015 = 0 / 0

...however, it was noted that some C4 checks are not due to expire until 2018.

On the 757 side, there were 89 authorized by the Board of Directors for purchase in Nov 2006 when the 757 was initially announced.

- so far 59 identified for purchase (30 not identified)

- 35 in possession - 18 converted / 17 "in conversion"

....once again, all data from Feb 2010.

YMMV!

When you're on a company computer, google "fleet planning" in the intranet google search. There's a link for aircraft fleet status or something like that. It has info on every airplane we ever leased or purchased and many of our future aircraft.
